About 850 students in first through sixth grade will participate in the event, according to chairman Sharon Donnelly, who said the HOPC&ON OVER school came out on top in the event the past two years. Students are being encouraged to collect pledges of one to nine cents per minute from relatives and friends, explained Shelley Love. Proceeds go to the Heart Assn. The association provides prizes ranging from jump ropes to sweat suits for individual winners and the top team will receive a gold medal, she said. Students who cannot collect pledges may still jump, she noted. The students are divided into teams of six, with a captain for each group. Dr. Raymond Novaco, a nationally known expert on anger and stress, will discuss those subjects in a free public lecture on May 4 at the University of Utah. Novaco, who teaches psychology at the University of California at Irvine, will speak at 5 p.m. in the Orson Spencer Hall auditorium. The author of Anger Control, Novaco has published widely on anger and stress in various scientific journals. His research on anger treatment has proved to be effective in treating adolescents, college students, psychiatric patients and others. He is currently working on reducing anger and stress in military recruits. GRANGER. Dr. Glen C. Griffin, author and lecturer, will speak at a general PTA meeting to be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Jackling elemen- tary. The author of You Were Smaller About You, and Other Than a Dot, Important People, and Not About Birds, Dr. Griffin is a pediatrician in Bountiful and is president of the Intermountain Pediatric Society. He has also recorded several tapes for Covenant Recordings and is a syndicated columnist. The meeting is open to the public and PTA officers are encouraging all parents to attend.
