Show Family Celebration - 3ft WEST VALIEV VIEW Thursdayjan.5, Everett Walton Honored On Birthday The Jack Birkinshaws Mark 6 Oth Wedding Anniversary by Bernice Ursenbach When asked what she does in spare time, Maude Adams Jack. wife of John (Jack) Oh, I just take says, her Birkin-shaBlrkin-sha- w care of However, when questioned more closely, this couple, who'll be celebrating sixty years of marriage on Jan. 11, 1984, have led an active, interesting life and continue to do so. Jack was born in Salt Lake the son of Jacob A. and Minnie C. Birkin-shaand when he was a youngster, the family moved to a farm located where the Dairy is now situated. He attended Arlington school and was a member of the second graduating class of Murray High where he was active in sports and drama. He and four fellow class w Hi-La- mates chose the school colors -orange and black. Maude was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of William H. and Nellie Adams. The family moved west and she graduated from high school in Idaho Falls. The family came to Salt Lake in 1918. She and Jack both found their way to the University of Utah and that was where they met at a Friday matinee dance. They dated casually for a couple of years and then became more serious when they of the Womens Legislative Council. She is a member of the Meadow-broo- k Ladies Golf Association and has won several golf trophies, and they both still enjoy a good game on the greens. Today they are active in the Murray branch of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). In the past they have traveled in the U.S. extensively and often spent their winters in Phoenix. Today, however, they are quite content to stay close to their home and community where Maude happily takes care of Jack. They will be celebrating this special anniversary quietly with family members only. :V, lVr Mtw 'iiii; - ), m mg found themselves practically neighbors as Maudes family moved to 10th East and Vine Street. On Jan. 11, 1924 they went to Farmington and were quietly married. Maude had been working for her 1 fMjr father, a noted auctioneer of the area, and she was his right hand man, serving as his clerk. The event will be held January 7th at the home of a daughter, Jean Rich, at 3560 South 2200 West. Guests are being asked to call between the hours of two to five in the afternoon. 9 A M. not anxious for her to marry so she and Jack didnt tell anyone of their marriage. However, when her father announced his intention of taking his family to Florida, Jack spoke up and told him it was too late because he and Maude were already married. That was the beginning of sixty years of hard work liberally mingled with the joys and happiness that go along with establishing a home and family. As a young man Jack worked as a brick mason with his father. He worked for J. C. Penney Co. for a few years and he and Maude operated a furniture store. During World War II they owned a large dry cleaning establishment with several branches. Maude and Jack Dore Chatwin Is Bride Of Casey Taylor Maude did most of the work with this business because, by this time, Jack was a member of the Salt Lake Police Department. Finally, in 1962, they moved into her mothers home in Murray and have been content in Jacks original home community ever since. Jack is past Exalted Ruler of the Salt Lake Lodge No. 85 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He is a member of the International Footprinters and the 49ers. Maude is a past president of the Ladies of the Elks and is a member 4:45 P.M. Casey Taylor, are making their home in West Valley City following a honeymoon at the Homestead. The new Mrs. Taylor is the former Dorie L. Chatwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Duane Chatwin. She is a graduate of Granger high and attended Utech College. Mr. and Mrs. Albert O. Taylor are the parents of the bridegroom who is also a Granger high graduate. He attended Snow College. The two were wed in double-rin- g rites performed at the Shalamar reception center on December 9th. A rehearsal dinner was held at the home of the grooms parents. Matron of honor at the reception was Treasa Tucker while serving as bridesmaids were Shelly Decost, Dawn Storm and Penni Coates. Little misses Venissa Allen and Lisa Sunquist were flower girls and Lorie Hamelman attended the guest book.
