After coming back to Utah, Duane hired on at Utah Copper as an electrician, and Erma got a job at Porter-Waltowhich later became Western Garden Center. In fact she helped open the Granger store at the end of her 20 year career. They both retired in 1963, and unlike most couples they both enjoyed good health, had enough money to travel and worked in politics and community service together. Duane was justice of the peace for 20 years and is still affectionately known as Judge. And he served as president of the Magna Community Council for a six year span. A close family, all of their children live close by, with the exception of two grandchildren, one of whom lives in Arizona and the other in California. But the distance is never too great to keep the Walker clan from getting together at Christmasa tradition that has been time maintained for more than 60 years. A family anniversary party will celebrate their wedding anniversary and their birthdays, with 84 immediate family members expected to attend. The only invited guest will be Mrs. Clair Pullum, who with her husband Lloyd (now deceased) has been a friend of the Walkers since through life together after they plighted their troth at the Salt Lake City and County Building on January 5, 1915. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in September 1963. However dancing was not the adhesive that held them together for almost seven decades. They claim it was hard work and working together for a common goal that served as the foundation of their family. In the early years of their mar-riag- e the Walkers lived on Coatsville Avenue in Salt Lake where Duane worked as a driver for Fisher in Bakery. In 1923 they the Texas oil fields where they stayed for the next six years. It was 1929 when the family, that now numbered five, headed for McGill, Nevada. There Duane work-- 8 ed as an electrician for Nevada Con-- 8 solidated Copper and Erma catered fancy parties for company adminis-- 8 trative personnel. But their wandering days would soon come to an end, for in 1935 they moved to Garfield and have lived in the same house for the past 48 years ... in spite of the town being phased out. They moved the building to Magna in 1958 and have remained ... 1951. Their three children include Erma (Mrs. Earl) Giles of Magna and George Walker of West Valley City. Another daughter Viola is deceased. They have nine grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 22 great-grea- t grandchildren, with four more on the way. Smith And Crandall Wed 7. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Smith Childhood Eating Habits Haunt Adulthood Poor eating habits, learned in childhood, linger on to haunt one throughout adulthood, so says an article in the winter issue of PTA Today. Such habits can be harmful to children's health and, para- doxically, many children and youth eat too much while others eat too little. Supportive home and school environment can help in both cases. The fact is that "obesity results from consuming more . . . food than expending energy, tells Rob Wharton, author of the article and director of the Weight Control Program at the Childrens Hospital Medical Center in Boston. It is not true that: obesity is caused solely by too many fat cells formed during infancy, an abnormal metabolic rate, a thyroid deficiency, or through heredity. To help a child who suffers from obesity it is suggested that parents: Eliminate high caloric foods from shopping lists and not allow them in your home; Tltae's a mdw .
