Its one of those plays that everyone recognizes the title, but not many people have seen it as a professional production, he said. to see Magna improve. n A resident of 18 years, Diana supported the incorporation. Seems like we have a constant fight to protect our town from having things we dont want in our town, she said. We need to stand up and choose our own destiny, or have it chosen for us. Much of the opposition to the incorporation came from residents of Copperton and surrounding areas. One boundary proposal includes Copperton in the incorporation, while a second proposed area -recommended by the independent group which conducted a feasibility study on the incorporation - would have as its southern boundary 6600 South. Ninty-nin- e percent of the people in Copperton dont want to be incorporated with Magna, according to Copperton resident Verio vdrick. Like everyone in Magna wor- ried about annexation, Kendrick said, We dont want to be annexed by Magna. Another area resident, Larry Turner, said, If I wanted to live in Magna, I would have moved to Magna. I dont favor any more incorporations, Dr. Carl Clark said. I think its ridiculous that a county as small as Salt Lake would have 15 cities, with 15 fire departments and 15 police departments. Out of about 175 area residents present at the hearing in the Cyprus high auditorium, about 25 stood and voiced their opinions on the proposed Magna City. One of the major reasons for incorporation brought up by residents was the lack of service from the county. Im tired of getting the crumbs from the county, said Jimmy a Magna resident of 59 years, ' Im for incorporation. We have to think of Magna and what its going to do for us and our kids. We have the right to govern ourselves. We ought to want to govern ourselves. Another Magna resident, Dick Bezzant, said costs arent equal to the services the county is providing to the area. I dont think we get the services out here that theyre saying we do, he said. Ive seen where we pay $42,000 for a dog catcher. I think its time to stand up on our own and try to bring costs down to a reasonable rate. Cant you see were being used, Orlando Barber asked. The play ran at New Yorks Empire Theatre for a record 3,224 performances when it opened in 1939. Its success has been attributed by many to the treatment of a universal theme - the eternal struggle between the sexes. Guest director of the production is Charles Morey, artistic director of New Hampshires Peterborough Players. Morey has directed two other comedies on the Main Stage Aunt and Arsenic and Old Lace.
