Thursday, Jan. 27, - Supporters GRANGER. A parent support group is being organized into a foundation at West Lake junior high to assist with the gifted and talented program being implemented there. Members of the group will meet at 7:30 tonight (Thursday) to elect officers and a board of directors. Already they have filed with the Sec- Teachers Being Feted By PTA MAGNA. The Copper Hills elementary PTA is working with students to observe teacher appreciation week. Children were given notes to take home last week, asking parents to assist them in making gifts for their teacher. The gifts were presented to teachers Monday, along with badges declaring them to be the worlds greatest teacher and a poem. A breakfast of assorted fruits and juices was served on Tuesday. On Wednesday, 1983 retary of State with intent to incorporate. Gerry Ashman, provisionary spokesman, will conduct the session where officers are to be named. A activity for the group has been set for Feb. 16. The Swanee Singers will perform a 7 p.m. benefit concert at West Lake. Funds will be used for a summer extended program to include various field trips and other opportunities. The program for talented and gifted students is being set up at junior high and high schools throughout Granite district. At West Lake, the emphasis is on providing accelerated orAP classes, but is designed for students with exceptional skills, talents or gifts. The incorporation idea came about as parents attended meetings where the program was being explained. A large number of parents participated and suggested that they might participate in providing field trips and other organized activities. An example would be the science fair in late March. Some students wanted to undertake more ambitious projects which could prove costly because of need for special equipment. If computer facilities were to be obtained, the organization receiving an outdated computer system from a company changing to a better system would have to have foundation status so the company could get a tax write-ofThe proposed foundation could expand further, possibly beyond the district, even the community, to create scholarships and more ambitious summer programs, explained James Clark, one of the teacher advisers to the group. Other teachers involved in the program are Mike Hewitt, Kama Petuskey and Sharon Sheya. Theyve even talked about such ambitious programs as perhaps sending a group to Europe for a summer program or a y history trip to the east coast, the spokesman concluded. fund-raisin- g Of School To Organize Girls o WEST VALLEY VIEW West Lake HOSPITALS OTHER boys and 41 girls were welcomed by 83 families residing in the Green Sheets west valley communities during the week, according to hospital reports available Monday morning.
