(UPI) — Carolann Gabrielan, 39. says she will go to jail rather than have her 13-year-old. 81-nound daughter submit to a court-ordered psychological exam to determine why she weighs so little. “Lam a good mother and I know whatI am doing. Mrs, Gabrielan of Middietown said that she would agree to allow a doctor to examine her daughter. but she will not permit a psychologist to see her to determine whether her low weight is the result of emotional problems. The case arose after officials at Thompson Junior High School, which Patricia attends. said the eighth-grader’s low weight was a danger to her health and charged Mrs. Gabrielan with negligence The court order for a physical and mental examination of Patricia was issued during a closed hearing before Fundler The public and press are barred by law from such hearings. Deputy Attorney General Israel Dubin later described the court order as “full and complete." He said Fundler gave the state Division of Youth and FamilyServices ‘full powerto supervise the matter.’ The girl's school turned the case over to the Monmouth Family Center a state-supervised family relations program which obtained an order for a court investigation of the girl's health. . Thestorm hurtled through Wyoming Thursday, sending temperatures plummeting, dropping a foot of snow in some areas and breaking windows in cars and trucks with winds gusting over 80 mph. Twoof the four snow-related deaths were caused bytraffic accidents on icy highways in Oregon, one was from over-exertion and one from an iceladen tree limb thatfell on a womanin downtown Portland. Interstate 80 was closed from the Nebraska line to the Utah border as high winds and snow made driving hazardous. Interstate 25 was closed from the Colorado border to Chugwater. Yellowstone Park was blanketed under 13 inches of snow. At Moose, Wyo., inside Grand Teton National Park, 10 to 15 inches of new snow had fallen by noon and an additional 8 to 12 inches was expected before the storm moved on. Across the state in Cheyenne, temperatures plunged from balmy mid-40s in midafternoon to zero at night. At Medicine Bow, winds gusting to 80-90 mph broke windowsoutofcars, trucks a cafe. Visibility was a matterof feet. A deep low-pressure center in western South Dakota caused the lowest barometric pressure reading in Rapid City’s history and temperature variations of as much as 30 degrees within an 8-mile area. The National Weather Service said shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday, Rapid City’s pressure fellto 28.85 inches. The previous low of 28.92 inches was recorded in March 1920. The temperature at the same time fell from 56 to 39 degrees in just 3 minutes. .
