Jarrett, USU Extension Service Agricultural engineer recently spent a week in Davis County diagnosing and correcting tractor problems. SPONSORED jointly by the Davis County Extension Service and Davis County Young y clinic reFarmers, the sulted in S3 tractors being checked on a dynamometer to five-da- determine horse power output. The tests indicated that common maintenance items such as regular servicing of the air cleaner and replacement of dirty fuel filters will greatly in- crease the tractor power. These are low cost items when compared to the loss of horsepower. Another common power losing factor is low RPM settings which do not allow the engine to develop its maximum power. This adjustment can only be made by a skilled mechanic using a dynamometer. RESULTS COMPILED from the testing program revealed an increase of 7J6 horsepower to the 53 tractors or an increase of 4 per tractor. Nineteen tractors checked out with the Nebraska test ratings 1 while 34 needed adjustments or some service to attain the proper level of operation. One large tractor recorded a net increase of 58 horsepower.
