He was 16 years old at " the time and was on the team that installed the equipment for the theater 33 years ago. This is exciting," he stated. It is an end of an era for the equipment that has been used in the theater all these years. All new equipment is being installed as well as the entire theater painted, repairing and recovering of some 27 seats and new draperies. A visual change of the interior will meet the standards of any of the theaters in the state. 1 A SYSTEM known as the Platter System was installed this past weekend. It is run record similar to an tape and is smooth and economical. Mr. Owens is excited about the new equipment. THE SAME lamps, projectors and equipment have been in use since the theatre was opened. The projectors have been overhauled once or twice in that period of time. The projectors were purchased from Pocatello High School where they had been sitting since 1939 with very little use. The bases were 6 'h inches too high to be installed so they had to be cut down to fit. The reels had to be changed manually and the lighting adjusted accordingly. Each 18 minutes the reels had to be changed. The time has come when lamps, parts and motors can nn not be replaced, they are so run this past week with the new equipment and no one but the crew knew such a drastic change had been made. MR. OWENS worked for three months at the Kaysville Theater when it first opened, then turned it over to a new manager. He lateroperated the Davis Drive Inn in Layton and the Layton Indoor Theater. He then went back to the Kaysville Theater for A'h years then quit to go into the electronics business. The Theater has a seating capacity of 392, a snack bar and a low rate of $ . per person so families can enjoy movies of the best quality. By DAVE YVIGHAM Another year has come and gone but this past one will go down in the books as far as this reporter is concerned. If you had half the year 1 had then you had a great one. FIRST OF all in February my lovely wife, Annet- te, gave birth to the Worlds Greatest Athlete. Matthew David was born the night Bountiful High beat Viewmont by one point on the Vikings floor in basketball. Dont worry, though, I had my priorities right; it marked the first Brave-Vikin- g game 1 had missed in many years. dribAlready the guy is doing his sports thing bles a lot right now but if hes my son hell soon learn to shoot. Passing never got anyone anywhere, did it? MATT HAS already seen more sporting events than most people see in a lifetime but he seems to enjoy them all. His big thrill right now, though, is the cheerleaders and drill teams. He owns a soccer ball, basketball and football and seems to have no preference, although, when he goes to Grandpas house he does fake like he likes soccer best. Hes almost eleven months old now and is starting let me shoot to say a few words. Pass to me, are just a couple of his favorite expressions. His mother, (they never understand) is trying to teach him words like "bye-by- e daddy, mummy, and a lot of other stuff that has no place in a sporting event. HE ALREADY hates anyone that wears black and white stripes. As soon as he hears a whistle he starts crying and arguing. He must get that from his mother. As if having this great addition to the family wasnt enough I had the great thrill of seeing the Houston Oilers in Denver. These guys are gods to me, although they did lose in the playoffs, and to see them in real life was a great thrill to me. IMAGINE HAVING a son presented to you and seeing Earl Campbell all in the same year. Another good thing this past year, and all the others, was the association I had with the great people I work with. Parents should be proud to have their children play for these coaches. Without a single exception all the coaches in the county are great individuals as well as great coaches. Another friendship I made this past year also is special to me and my wife. We met Ben Poquette and his lovely wife Nora during the year. Since the summer we have become friends with them and Its great to know some of these professional athletes are great off the court to. Many feel pro athletes think of themselves as better than most and put them on a pedestal. Ben is as down to earth as anyone I know. THE JAZZ might have their troubles winning right now but with people like Ben, Alan Bristow and Jeff Judkins they are winners off the floor. So the year 1980 will long be remembered by this reporter. Who knows what will happen this new year? Maybe Ill get to the Houston Astrodome for a home Oiler game. The Jazz will get to the playoffs. Davis County schools will rule in high school sports.
