EVEN SOME of the old bams still standing could relate stories of events that occurred before the turn of the century. There are a few bams and sheds throughout Davis and Morgan counties that have weathered the storms for more than 100 years. For example, the old bam on this page with the 12 to high rock foundation was built in Porterville, Morgan County, more than 100 years ago. The rock foundation was constructed by hand by the every single rock of Merrill Porter, one of the early settlers of Porterville. BUT DESPITE its longivity, the bam has been kept in condition over the past century and some odd years. d Another bam w a tale to tell is the building typical of bam designs a half century or more ago. The one featured on this page was constructed by near-perfe- round-roofe- v,v j y . . . k cataBub Kilbum from plans found in a logue. The interior of the bam is unique because instead of being open and spacious, it is built like a home with separations for hay and grain chambers, stalls, feed bins, etc. This building, too, is in immaculate condition. SOUTH WEBER in Davis County is a hotbed for old bams. Two of them, believed to be nearly 100 years old. stand because of Although weather-beatethe severe winters and high canyon winds persistant in this farming community, they refuse to give in to old man time. But old or not, nearly all of these barns are as picturesque as any formation you could find in northern Utah. Study the architectual designs of these old buildings. Theres very little to compare with them. fences that surround the old barns, NOTE THE and the old farm machinery that sits idly by their side. And notice, too, the aged condition of all the bams yet they continue to remain standing. What will it take to finally destroy these old structures? Personally, I hope they remain standing forever.
