'' ' H 'M Jeff Niederhauser and Darren Barker may not win a region title in their respective events and then again, dont be surprised if they do. The two Clearfield runners, Jeff in the 400 meters and Darren in the long distance runs are utility men in the clutch. UTILITY MEN IN THE CLUTCH that he doesn't realize he's got, said Flint. The more he wins, the more confidence he gets. And the more confidence he gets, the greater chance he realizes his potential. By KEITH DUNCAN When it finally comes time to decide another Region One champion in track and field, it will be because of utility men like Clearfields Jeff WILCOX RUNS with a long natural stride and according to his coach, with a bunch of hard work could someday run in he gets a little college, more aggressive, he could be added something to watch, Flint. Clearfield's top dog in the long distance races sounds off with a familiar name, that of Niederhauser, Robert Wilcox and Darren Barker that the title is finally decided. if ALL THREE Falcons play a big role in Clearfield's march to its possible third region region crown in just seven years. None-je- f the three will win a state title in their event, unless they really surprise us, but all are as important to John Flint's track and field machine as nuts and bolts are to his wheat combine. When talking about a utility man, you stop first to discuss Niederhauser who is use to the hilt in a Clearfield track and field meet. He sometimes can run four 400 meters in a single track meet for the Falcons. JEFF IS the kind of guy who never complains and is always leading the team in the hardest workout, said Flint. His speciality is the 400 meter where last weekend at the Inv. he finished sixth among the state's best. ANOTHER stalwart is in the likes of Robert Wilcox , elected to serve as a team captain his final year at Clearfield. Robert still has potential Barker. He is the third of three Barker brothers who have run long distance for Flint at Clearfield. Before Darren came along, he had Jerry and Radley to follow. DARREN IS going to surprise some people before the year is finally over, commented Flint. His time drops by a couple of seconds every time he runs. His best is 3:39.9 but the best is yet to come. Barker is expected to come through the back door and surprise some people come region and state time, this according to his coach. ALL THREE of these Clearfield runners will be competing in the Region One meet to be held at Clearfield High for the Because of an AIWA women's track meet to be held at Weber State the same week, one Davis County principal nominated the meet to be held at Clearfield. THE OTHER principals voted unanimously for the same thing giving Flint the task of preparing his track and field for their second big meet of the year.
