Show Central Utah Police Plan To Join Teletype Network By JOAN GEYER Instant automated records— 50 states deep—will soon be as near to local police departments as a teletype keyboard. That’s the word from Mountain States Telephone consultant, Robert L. Hurst, who met Wednesday at Heber with Central Utah Chiefs of Police. Utah this month became the 45th state to join the national police teletype network, said Hurst. Montana, sometime this year, will become the 46th, and Wyoming and Colorado will come in next spring — leaving only North and South Dakota, a communications island. Instant Records At the touch of a key, Utah County police department can have instant records from Federal Bureau of Investigation or an immediate written report on a criminal from Royal Mounted Police. The courts have recognized a teletyped warrant for arrest as legal, said Mr. Hurst. Springville, Spanish Fork and Payson will share a teletype with Provo, chiefs agreed Wednesday. And Orem, Lehi, Pleasant Grove and American Fork will share anotherpolice teletple.
