" This famous quote applies to many things in life. As we travel down our rocky roads throughout a journey we call life, there always seems to be a boulder standing in the way of our dreams. From personal experience can tell you know what it is like to have a boulder in the way every few miles of your joumcv My life has been filled with many boulders but w ith each boulder and rock that come in my way I have gained '.onfidencc and determination to p ess on I have met many people in my life who have overcome large boulders. I would like to tell you about one of them, his name is Art Berg. During high school and throughout college Art had the perfect life or so it He excelled in seemed. he did and was loved everything I by his 1 classmates and well off. Art soon fell in love with a beautiful young lady by the name of Dallas. They planned to marry in the Salt Lake Temple in February of the following year Christmas rolled around and Art traveled to California to spend time with his family for Christmas. Then he planned to return to Utah where his fiancee would be waiting to make the final arrangements for their upcoming "edding. After the presents were opened and the Christmas feast was eaten, Art said his goodby es and left with his friend to make the long trip back to Utah Early that morning while Art was sound asleep in the passenger seat a sudden jolt of pain awoke him to later find out that he had been in a terrible car accident and would now have to face life as a quadriplegic. The doctors told Art that his dreams in life were over and not possible to achieve. As he lay in the hospital thinking over his map of life his mother told him something that would change his life forever. She said, While the difficult takes time.... the impossible just takes a little bit longer. That day Art decided that this boulder was not going to stop him from fulfilling his dreams, he would press on and he did. Art was married a y ear and a half after that fatal day and now has two children. He has returned to the world of sports and competes as a quadriplegic. He travels around the world motivating others to go for their dreams. He has written a book about his life entitled, Some Miracles Take Time and owns various bookstores around the state. These are just a few of the many things that he has accomplished not inspitc of his circumstances... but, perhaps, because of them. Each of our lives have had boulders like Art's but like Art those boulders can be simple rocks on our road of life if we make them. You have helped to make this year a great success. Foreigner Valedictory By: Valerie Haselbek Now the school year is about over, and we just exchange students will leave for our home countries soon. But before we leave, we wanted to tell you a little bit about our experience at Manti High School. When we came here last August, we all were complete strangers. We had left our home countries to go to an American high school, to lcam the language better and to get a bigger view of other cultures. Of course we were scared What would we find there, far away from home and family? How would the people there be? How would the school be? Is the risk worth it? I think that not a single one of us can deny our fears at the beginning of the year But those fears did not for long. Soon we found stay friends; there were people who helped us and who were interested in our cultures and countries. We were surprised how open minded the students atMHSvvere. They just came to talk to us without even knowing us. Our time here is almost over, so, in the name of all of us, I want to thank all those people who helped us, all the teachers who understood that it took us a little bit longer in the beginning, and the whole school We had a great time here at Manti I ligli School, the risk was worth it, and I think I speak for all of us when I say Guys, we will miss you a lot1 |
