' The board opened the bids and an-- ; nounced during Wednesdays board of 1 commissioners meeting that Beck 7 Street Construction Company' of Salt ; Lake City was the apparent low bidder. 'J The commissioners approved the bid p with restrictions that it meet all of the ; requirements set forth by Housing and P Urban Development which is funding the project. After the meeting was adjourned r Wednesday, a representative of Herm r Hughes Construction Company, Salt Lake City, who had also bid on the project entered the meeting chambers and told the commissioners that they were going to file a protest because ; ; Beck Street Construction- - was not licensed at the time of the bid opening. Rosemary Davis, director of Davis ; County Housing Authority, said Friday that they had checked with legal p council and had been told that they Z could accept the Beck "Street Con-- ; struction bid. She said it had been discovered that the Beck Street license ; had been issued Wednesday prior to the bid opening. t ! The bids are for a public housing project funded through a loan from Housing and Urban Development. Mrs. - Davis said the funds are given to Davis County by HUD for the construction " and Davis County is also given a grant - to pay HUD back for the funds. The project involves construction of 48 housing units for elderly residents in Bountiful and four family housing units Board Educators Get College Awards Okays Contract - The FARMINGTON Davis School Board , struction begins on the project. Mrs. Davis said the housing authority will . finish reviewing the bids and expect to sign a contract with Beck Street Construction within two weeks to a month and expects construction to begin shortly after. The construction was projected to cost $1.79 million and Mrs. Davis said the council was pleased that the bids received were under the budget. The bids ranged from a high of $1.82 million to $1,515 million Mrs. Davis said. The four family units in Layton will be in the form of duplexes constructed near 2100 W. 1700 S. in Layton. Mrs. Davis said the Bountiful elderly units are scheduled to be started first ac- cording to the contract and will be the first elderly units in Davis County. The public housing units are rented with income limitations Mrs. Davis said. The county will charge 25 percent of the renters income as rent. She said the rentals received will be used by the county to cover up keep on the units. Mrs. Davis said they will rent the units according to the budget requirement for upkeep costs. She said some of them will go to extremely low income people and others will have to go to those in higher brackets to help the county meet its costs. a ; approved contract for an to Lincoln addition Tuesday $468,500 Elementary School in Layton.
