Show Page 6B, Lakeside Review, December 22, 1980 Four-Wa- y Strong Viewmont Squad Takes Top Spot Basketball The Tie HUB County High girls basketball league ended last Wednesday with four teams finishing in a tie for the top spot. The standings are as follows: Sunset South Davis Centerville . John White sweetened the score with 24 points, and Kyle Morrell got 12. For the Lakers, Cory Sylvestor spent a lot of time on the bench but still managed to get 27 points on twelve Held goals and 3 for 5 from the line. Norm Haney did even better with 28 points, but it wasnt enough to beat the big three from Viewmont. The Vikings made 31 field goals and 14 of 16 from the line, while the Lakers had 29 field goals and converted 15 of 25 foul shots. Coach Ron Johanson was more than pleased in his victories over Roy and Bonneville. They are two of the best teams we have played, he said. We - played hard, and got a few breaks to beat them borh. Roy 75 Box Elder 73. The Royals played their second overtime game in as many days, but this time they won to claim third place in the tourney. The game was knotted at 75 in regulation, but Roy 10 to 8 to eke out the the host-teavictory. Roys Rob Thomas led all scoring with 29 points, while Bart Hadley had 20 and Brad McCaulley got 10. Steve Scholtec made only 8 points for the evening, but four of them came in the crucial overtime period. The Vikings garnered, a 6 victory over Tooele on shakey opening night, and then came to blows with a strong contingent from Roy. 4 in doubleThey beat the Royals on took the Lakers then and overtime, of Bonneville. Coach Johanson wanted very much for another crack at the Lakers. Going into the tournament, Bonneville had been the only team to beat his Vikings, and he had a score to settle. For a time it didnt look too promising for Viewmont: The Lakers were ahead by ten at halftime, but behind the shooting of Norm Parrish and 68 John White, the Vikings overhauled Bonneville in 3 the final quarter and won a thriller. Viewmont opened its 1980 basketball season with a resounding victory over Kearns, a 2 win over Ogden, The and then a loss to Bonneville Vikings got back on their winning ways with a 0 victory at Davis and an 0 shoot-ou- t with Olympus, and then won all the marbles at Box Elder. Viewmont 69 - Roy 64 Norm Parrish tossed in 27 points for the night, and six of his counters came in the tense overtime and doubleovertime sessions. He had a. lot of help from Kyle Morrell and his 18 points, and David Peterson came off the bench to score 10. For the Royals, it was Bart Hadley with 18, Rob Thomas with 16 and Steve Scholtec with 14. Roy had several opportunities to win the game in regulation and in the first overtime, but missed on the front end of a couple of situations. The Royals had the final two shots in both sessions but the ball wouldnt drop. In the second overtime, the Vikings moved ahead and employed their delay-gam- e to assure the victory. MC 27 So.
