Announces Pre A new national CLEARFIELD trial' training program will be operated for a one-yeperiod at the Clearfield Job Corps Center. A Sen. Orrin Hatch, during a recent tour of the facility, said the pilot program will begin in about three months. If successful the training will be incorporated into the national Job Corps program. :r" The program, the senator said, is designed to prepare interested Job Corps enrollees nationwide to qualify for entry into military life so they will have a better chance of success once they are accepted into one of the services. 1 The new program, according to the senator, will training to an initial group of 60 provide male students and 20 female students. The volunteer students will come first from the Job Corps Center in Clearfield and then from interested students from other Job Corps around the country. Former military people will be sought to train the 80 new enrollees. The students will live in special dorms to learn military science and discipline similar to; the ROTC program. ' National Job Corps Director Richard Jaffe, who accompanied Hatch on the tour of the facilities, said the program will help the students decide if they want a career in the service. Jaffe said the Department of Defense has tracked corpsmen who have entered the 'military for the last 15 years and found them to last in the military longer. They performed better and Were better disciplined then the average recruit, .Jaffe said. Jaffe also noted that many young men and women Corps want to serve their country but are not sufficiently skilled in basic academics or lack the medical qualifications to enable them to pass the eligibility criteria for entry into the military service. completing the total program at Clearfield, applicants will be ready for the military service academically, vocationally, mentally, socially and physically, Jaffe said. ;.He said the students also should have sufficient institutional experience to make their military enrollment much more successful.
