Show 24 Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday February 27, 2001 Photo by Kevin Ashby Commissioners are shown the working of the Texaco water disposal facility Coalbed Methane Continued from PAGE 1 A. showed how the facility operates. It js fstiiiiaUHl that the 15 wells Tewu-has in operation in and around the Buzzard Bench area produce !l million cuhic feet of gas a day, enough Ip is to iro ide for the needs of all of the Castle Valley urea on a daily basis. In the production of coallied methof the gas producane a tion is brine. The salt water must be pumped continuously from coal seams to reduce reservoir pressure and release the gas. The pump jacks at the well sites pump the water to the surface, w hieh allows the gas to escape from the coal, according to Prince. The brine is reinjected into the sandstone, which, in Carbon County, is at a depth of about 6,500 feet. The brine could be a new, untapped industry many believe, but then1 would lie a knot of regulations and laws which would need to be untangled before it could be used. The gas companies had experi- mented w ith removing the salt from the water and were successful in doing so, but the cost was excessive. Theres a lot of industries which could result from production of this brine," said Prince. The life span of the wells being drilled in the Emery and Carbon areas is still unknown. Prince said that representatives from Anadarko estimate the life span of their wells at 27 years, but we havent had enough time to know how longthese will last." Photo by James L. Davis One Last Pillar Danny Curtis and Derek Richards put the finishing touches on the 48th and last pillar being built for the Huntington Cemetery. The work at the cemetery is being accomplished by workers at Nielson Construction, which has donated the manpower, equipment and supplies to the project to beautify the cemetery. In the fall construction was completed on the new archway for the cemetery and through the winter Nielson workers have been working on the pillars.
