OGDF N - Viewmonts girls basketball team continued on a collision course set for Orem High as the Vikings easily handled the Weber Warriors in thp quarterfinals of the female 4A state tournament BOITI the Vikings and the Orem Tigers entered the emifinal contest without a loss this season Orem is coached by former Bountiful High Coach Dave Allphin In taking the Warriors apart the Vikings used their height and depth to overcome a very determined and hustling Weber five THE Weber crew, which had already been beaten by the Vikes twice in league play, knew that they would have to play inspired ball to stay with the better Vikings and thats exactly what they did before bowing to the Vikes by the score of 47 29 Coach Lynn Dubois of Viewmont had nothing but praise for the effort of the W'eber team, They were hustling the entire game, Ive ith w HEBER never really got out of the starting gate before the Vikes had taken command of the contest, and from then on in it was strictly an uphill battle for them. At the end of the first quarter the Warrior faithfuls looked up and found themselves down 4 Viewmont threw up their sticky zone defense, along with their guards harrassing at midcourt, and the Warriors never really did get off a good 11-- percentage shot They did find better luck in the second period as they stayed almost even in scoring during that e span with the Vikes Halftime score turned eight-minut- out to be 23-1- 3 VIEHMO.NT found the scoring rougher in the third period as they were actually outscored, 10-- by the Warriors who cut the Viking lead to going into the fourth and final period During the fourth period the Vikes showed why they are still undefeated this year as they completely ran away from their opponents outscor- 29-2- 3 i r g" J a Soniet.mes dur irig Uk. course of a baskelbali gime ore1 tram just cant do anything wrong while their ' gj I - n up 0f j u i W 8" - t opponents seemed to k doing evt rything wrong Such was the case when the Tigers of Ogden played the Darts of Davis for fourth plate in (he slate tournament the team doing everything right, won t he vu tory over game with a 79-5- u c doing THE Tigers came out smoking while the Darts were having their troubles Senior jumping jack Jackie Watkins started out the game on fire as he collet ted 17 points m the first half alone With him suiting am time he got hold of the ball, the Tigers took command from the start At the end of the to secure their ing them twentieth win of the year Although only trailing by six points going into the final period the game was never seriously threatened by the 18-- 6 Weber team. THE feeling in the gymnasium was that the Vikes would put out enough energy to win the contest. Maybe the Vikes were looking ahead to the confrontation with the Orem crew After all they had no trouble with Weber in league play, but after a good three periods of play from the Warriors the Vikings got down to matters at hand and disposed of them LEADING the Viewmont onslaught was their great sophomore Debbie Asper who V m r in R v t f e k j an paured . -- , ! 1 amt.-- t .
