It will house two courts, a sauna, steamroom and offices for the parks and recreation department. There will be plenty of room to expand, including a basement where city officials hope an exercise room can someday be installed. al AN AIREL VIEW of the new Layton City wave pool which is scheduled to open sometime in August. Perhaps by the third or fourth week of August, city officials here believe their wave pool will be completed and ready for the public to enjoy. The entire project, without question the first of its kind in Utah, brings smiles across the faces of -- Layton Parks and Recreation Director Richard Hunt and Recreation Director Carter Cook whenever someone satisfies their curiosity by asking questions about it. Said Hunt, It is a unique thing and I believe the public is going to eat something like this up. And why not, everywhere else in the country this kind of attraction has gone up, the public has gone wild. The wave pool sensation has hit as close to home as Salt Lake City and many others are located throughout the United States and Canada. But the Layton facility is unique because it will feature more than just a wave pool. Besides a 500,000 gallon pool that has a 17,000 square foot surface, this project dso includes a sauna, a steam-moa large concession area, a large basement which will inc'ude storage room and perhaps 'ome da a large exercise area. And there is more. There will be two racquetball courts and adequate restroom and changing areas. Also included will be offices for the city parks and recreation divisions. But the pool unquestionably will be the greatest attraction. It appears to be good sized with 25 yards of width at the deep end with eight racing lanes for swimming competition. That might be appealing to the local high schools who have been without a pool up to this point. Layton High and Davis High swimmers ought to be excited. Hunt said the pool v ill be able to hold up to 1300 peopl c and in comparison to a similar wave pool in Salt Lake City, this one is the exact same size. But the Layton pool, which will be given the name Surf n Swim, is more updated than other pools in the intermountain area. The heated pool will include the most wave-makin- g equipment on the market. Well be able to produce eight or nine different types of waves, said Hunt, Parallel waves for surfing, a diamond wave pattern, a an inverted waves and others. Its a computerized system which can be programed to run how we want it. Its amazing too with a project inlike this of the little down-tim- e volved. People who have them just havent experienced many problems. Surf n Swim will also have a large grass area for picnics as well as having a fairly large deck area. But perhaps the thing that sets this wave pool off from the rest is the bubble top which will be placed over the top of the pool during the colder months of the year. This bubble will go 2 10 feet long and 175 feet wide which is bigger than the te bubble facility located in Bou- nd'd. This bubble system will be insulated and will have an acustics system which hopefully will take away some of the echos apparent with tie bubble pool to the south. Surf'd Swim will have a back-u- p generator in case of power outages to insure more safety with the bub-- b e on. You have to have the bubble if pool, said you want a year-roun- d Hunt, Indoor pools die during the summer months because people want to be outside. To our knowledge, this will be the only wave pool in the United States which will feature all year round usage, of course made possible with the bubble. But at the same time, the waves won't be running all the time so people can do laps Dunlop GT Qualifier and aerobic swimming if they want. The wave system will run on a timing devide and will be turned off every 10 or 15 minutes so people and the engines can have a rest. Thats important because people can get tired with constant waves. I believe another feature people will like is the fact that half the pool will be three feet or less of water. A mother could set her little toddler down at the shallowest end and not have the worry shed have at a regular pool. A child would have to travel a long ways to get into serious trouble. Ive been impressed by the figures of other wave pools that say more and more adults are loading up in the water. It's a great thing for the kids, but parents will enjoy it too. Weve even built some specially made ramps for people in wheelchairs to enjoy the water. Recreation director Carter Cook said the only problem he could foresee is the lack of parking, but he also said that that good problem with all who will flock to the sight. The complex is might be a the people new water being built behind the present city offices building. Cook added with a laugh, I hope the pool attracts so many people we have to build a parking building. The present small pool the city runs will continue to be open with swimming lessons and the such. Hunt continued to say, Id really be pleased if this facility could do well enough to meet its operating costs the first year, without a summer. I think it can. But it does remain to be seen if a wave pool can generate excitement during the months the bubble is on, which believe it will. Talk about admission prices is centering around $2.50 to $3.50 per person with a discount going to Layton residents who are helping to pay for the pool. Cook said, Its the only year round wave pool in the nation and believe people will get after it. I'm excited myself about jumping in and riding the waves. Both Hunt and Cook were confident the pool would open the last week of August. They'd both like to see the pool with at least a week without the bubble on. The bubble probably will be installed during the Labor Day weekend and lifted close to Memorial Day. two-stor- Metric Steel Radial P145R13 P155R12 P155R13 P165R13 P175R14 P185R14 P165R15 P17570R13 P18570R13 P18570R14 P19570R14 875x16.5 950x16.5 35.00 36.00 P19570R13 43.00 46.00 48.00 51.00 116.00 Radial Trail Digger Mudder 9.5015 79.00 81.00 91.00 750R16 8P 875R16.5 8P 950R16.5 8P $66.00 74.00 77.00 79.00 79.00 81.00 89.00 76.00 78.00 80.00 87.00 91.00 98.00 P21570R14 P22570R14 P23570R14 P22570R15 P23570R15 P22570R15 P22560R14 P23560R14 P23560R15 P25560R15 P2756CR15 P26550R14 P29550R15 39.00 43.00 48.00 45.00 Light Steel Radial 21585R16 $75.00 85.00 23585R16 10P $32.00 44.00 47.00 52.00 750x16 $35.00 Hi way Rib Truck & R.V.
