He also believes in rewarding outstanding efforts, The store had an Olympic Contest recently that was in- spired by two employees, Vaughn Gardiner and Bret Nybo. The winners of the contest received Dicks thanks along with cash awards and future bonuses. The contest has left the employees with a greater desire to work as a team and family in order to give the best service possible to the customers. With the goal improvement g the process, em- ployees divi'tcH up into teams to work for five weeks on five different categories, adding a new goal each week, while keeping the previous one in mind, thus habits would be built hoping to become a permanent part of that employee's behavior. The five categories were department improvement, decor and appearance of the store and employee, production and effectiveness, customer service and appredeciation and sales and monstrations. Along with these items that were worked on. the employees had the opportunity to complete a survey, and submit ideas on how to improve their departments. This recent contest was met by enthusiasm as the teams pulled together. There were many and a few major ones, but these Lady Darts had one that will be as mini-hoopl- special to them as any could be. The quarter put together quite a show at the womens state track and field meet by winning the medley relay title. The Darts won that event with a time of 4:23.66, which was better than second place Bonneville and third place Clearfield. Weber, who had a nice celebration in winning the team championship, finished fourth there. As a team, Davis finished tied for eighth place with Bonneville as both teams ended up with 21 4-- points. Two sophomores, Michelle Duke and Becky Rees, ran the 200 Weve been real successful in the medley all year long, chipped in Jane Stewart, Davis new first year head coach. After the BYU Invitational I felt theyd be strong in it (medley) from that point on. Weber, who seems to be strong in everything, never did come together in the medley. Stewart felt the entire year was a success for the Lady Darts, despite the fact her team didnt finish as high in state as they would have liked. Lisa Schry ver, who qualified for state in six events, ended up taking sixth in both the long jump and the meters. Stewart, who as junior high coach that experienced tremendous success at North Layton, Central and Farmington, felt that Weber Highs total dominance of 400 the meet may have been a little intimidating to a lot of people. Their tradition is scary at times because sometimes youll have a girl that will tell herself shes lost already when a girl from Weber enters the race. It was really nice however when (Janet) Brooks beat Carlina Jenkins, Webers entrant in that race. Janet felt good after that race and it helped our girls," said Stewart. I expect Brooks to come back next year and have a very nice year, continued Stewart. Stephanie Hess, another Davis entrant, finished fifth in the shot put for more Lady Dart points. Two more came from the mile relay which finished fifth.
