DOLLS HAVE always had a universal appeal for Mrs. Sheffield. She enjoyed them as a child and has the one beautiful bridal doll which is 57 hears old, given to her by her husband when they were married, which is a pricelsss possession. Another of her favorites is an original doll which features a leather body, china head, and all jointed which was made in Germany and is 62 years old, given her by a cousin, Exer Whitlock Storey. This doll was given to Exer when three years old by her grandmother Nana Whitlock, wife of Dr. Walter A. Whitlock. KNOWING OF her cousin's collection and love of dolls, she gave the doll to Melva to keep and preserve. Mrs. Sheffield has some of the very popular Madame Alexander, also Barbie, baby dolls, antique dolls, foreign dolls, character dolls, all types of porcelain, as well as puppets, clowns, etc. collected throughout the United States and many from foreign countries. PEOPLE collect dolls for many reasons, but for Mrs. Sheffield it is a hobby, they are a reflection of the human spirit and are like people, being an interesting and fun hobby. She not only collects them, but she also makes clothing and dresses them. This passes away many hours of time as she loves to crochet and sew. HER MANY friends and relatives also have contributed to her collection by giving her dolls for special occasions. She does beautiful handiwork and especially is fond of crocheting. She has also made countless capes, shawls, afghans, bedspreads, table covers and has crocheted each of her great- grandchildren a beautiful dress for their christening. SO MANY of her dolls are dressed in clothing she has either crocheted or handmade. Each one in her collection is an individual in her eyes. She is generous in giving many of the dolls to her friends and relatives. MRS. SHEFFIELD enjoys cooking as well and is known through- out the area for her delicious meals. She was employed with the school lunch program for 15 years at both Kaysville Elementary and Davis High School and was supervisor in charge. She recalls on July 12, 1956 she had a story printed in the Kaysville Weekly Reflex on her cooking featuring her favorite ice cream recipe written by Mary owring. Mary was editor of the paper at that time. MRS. SHEFFIELD also was em- ployed with the Intermountain Knitting Mills in Ogden and also Clover Club Foods Company. She was born in Syracuse and reared in Layton. HER HUSBAND James Fred Sheffield is as proud of her accom- plishments and her tremendous doll collection as she is. He has contributed to the collection, by buying many of her favorite dolls as gifts for special occasions, np I I TO: PHYSICIAN INFORMATION J Humana Hospital Davis North 1600 West Antelope Drive J ! !
