Hamblin William Leonard Hamblin, 74, former Kaysville resident, died Tuesday, June 19, 1984 at the St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City of complications following a Cathryn (Kay) Rives stroke. MR. HAMBLIN was born Nov. 21, 1909 in Ramah, New Mexico, a son of William and Florence B. her macrame work, quilts and afghans. SURVIVING are her husband of Kaysville, two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Robert J. (Susan Kay) Monson, South Weber; Steven Rell Rives and Paul William Rives, both of Roy; Mrs. Brett (Jolene) Hennefer, Kaysville and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers and two sisters, Floyd Whetton, Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Richard (Ethelyn) Helm, Pukalani, Hawaii: Gladys Kay, West Valley City; John Whetton and Albert Whetton, both of Ogden; and Lloyd Whetton of Salt Lake City. CATHRYN (KAY) WHETTON RIVES Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 26 at 11 a.m. at the Lindquists Kaysville Mortuary Chapel for Mrs. Cathryn (Kay) Whetton Rives, 57, of 1023 N. Kinswood Road, Kaysville, who died Saturday, June 23, 1984 at her home of leukemia. FAMILY prayer was given by Robert J. Monson; prelude and postlude music, George Rytting; Abide With Me Tis Eventide by Scott Woodbury, accompanied by Lori Drake; invocation, H. Brent Van Zweden; bishop's remarks, Bishop Gary H. Pehrson; tribute to her mother, Susan K. Monson; speaker, Pres. Duane B. Gerrard and Richard Tingey. Beyond the Sunset by Scott Woodbury, accompanied by Lori Drake; speaker. Harvey M. Broad-ben- t; The Perfect Day, by Scott Woodbury and Lori Drake; benediction, Steven Rell Rives. MRS. RIVES was born Sept. 1, 1926 in Wattis, Carbon County, Utah, a daughter of. Samuel and Meggie Wardell Whetton. On July 18, 1946, she married Rell William Rives Jr., in Ogden. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 5, 1958. SHE HAD been a member of the Clearfield 5th LDS Ward and at the time of her death was a member of the Kaysville 12th LDS Ward. She had served in the YWMIA, Primary, Sunday School and in the ward choir and as ward librarian. She was reared and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School in 1944. She attended Weber State College. SHE HAD lived in Logan for two years after her marriage. She lived in Ogden until 1953 when she moved to Clearfield. In 1972 she moved to Kaysville. She had worked at Hill Air Force Base in the Directorate of Material Management, retiring in February of 1978 with 29 years of service. DEDICATION of the grave was by A. Dale Monson with interment in the Washington Heights Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Steven Rell Rives, Paul William Rives, Robert J. Monson, Frank T. Rives, Brett L. Hennefer, Floyd W. Whetton, Carl B. Van Zweden and H. Brent Van Zweden. HONORARY pallbearers were Ryan J. Monson, Cory R. Monson, Robert Tyler Monson, Christian J. Rives, Nathan S. Rives and Wayne Ray Rives. Flowers were cared for by the Kaysville 12th Ward Relief Society. Jim Preston, 39, of 1277 E. 1275 N., Layton, died Wednesday, June 20, 1984 at the Humana Hospital Davis North in Layton of cancer. Wilcox Funeral services were held Monday, June 18 at the Cherry Lane Ward Chapel for Dr. Frank Blair Wilcox who died June 15, 1984. Bishop Richard G. McKenzie of the Layton 24th Ward officiated. She also won many awards for Elbert Jolley Sheffield, formerly of Kaysville and prominent Los Angeles California attorney, died Monday, June 18 at a hospital there, following a few months illness. HE WAS born in Kaysville, June 16, 1912 and spent his early youth there. He attended schools of Davis County, graduating from Davis High School and seminary. He was valedictorian of his graduating class. He also graduated from the University of Utah where he was in the top seven in his group. He married Barbara Welsch, of Salt Lake City Nov. 1, 1939. They have resided in California most of their married life. HE IS survived by his wife of Santa Ana, five sons and three daughters; a number of grandchildren and two brothers, Loftus Sheffield, Provo; and Val Sheffield, Glendale, Calif. Gettle in Redwood City, Calif. HE WAS educated in Palo Alto, Calif. He attended San Jose State College for three years. He was the resident general manager of The Bon in the Layton Hills Mall. HE WAS a member of the Rotai Club and the Layton Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Clearfield Community Church. He had served on various committees and on the church council. SURVIVING are his widow of Layton; two sons and one daughter, Todd C. Preston. Adam R. Preston and Michelle Preston, all of Layton. Also surviving are his parents of Port Orchard. Wash.: one .Willden Hamblin. He married Edith L. Malin. He resided and had been employed in French Morocco, North Africa; Tehran, Iran; Saudi Arabia and Roi Namur, Marshall Islands for more than 30 vears. SHE WAS born Dec. 23, 1902 in Skewen South Wales, England, a daughter of Daniel and Sophia Thomas Jones. She married Percy Davis in 1918 in South Wales England. He died May 31, 1975. SHE HAD lived in England 80 had years. For the past year, she lived in Syracuse with her daughter. She attended the Chapel Church in England.
