Albert's attorney, Roy Black, contended rough-and-tumble sex had become commonplace between them over the years and tried to show that the woman had sought to entrap Albert. The 42-year-old woman began her testimony by smiling warmly and describing how Albert “would lead me very gently” in previous trysts. The 54-year-old Albert smiled, too, but he did not look at his accuser. The woman then lowered her voice to describe herlast meeting with Albert, a night in a luxury hotel room on Feb. 12 that led to sodomy and assault and battery charges against the NBC sports- caster. She said she went to Albert's room in the early-morning hours knowing he wanted three-way sex with her and another man. “Are you going to surprise me?” she said Albert asked in greeting her at the door of his room at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. She said Albert at first didn’t seem angry that she had arrived alone, and even gave her an affec- tionate kiss and a back rub. But his mood darkened, she said, after Albert put on a videotape showing two men having sex with one woman. “That's what we should be doing,” she recalled him saying in a scolding tone Suddenly, she said, Albert grabbed her by the waist and flung her onto the bed and jumped on her back. She mimicked him in his angry, scolding voice as telling her “I've been a bad girl, and I should have brought somebody.’ “He started biting me, and I said ‘No, stop, it hurts,’ she told the jury of seven womenandfive men. She said Albert later grabbed her bythe hair and squeezed her face to force her into performing oral sex. Under cross-examination, the womandenied ever coaching any- one into giving prosecutors damaging information against Albert That's when Black introduced a tape-recorded phone conversation in which the womanis heard telling a potential witness, a cab driver, “You knowwhat to say. You know we got to get tight on this. She wanted the driver to tell prosecutors he picked up Albert andthat Albert asked him to pro- cure a “boy.” At the end of the conversation, the cab driver says, “I’m too old for this. You owe me $50,000 and a newcar.’ “OK, OK, baby,” she said After acknowledging the voice on the tape was hers, she told the court the driver was telling the truth about Albert, and thedis- cussion about the money was just a joke because she could never afford such a payoff.
