| Show FOR A GREAT PEACH DAY work has already commenced on making arrangements for peach day next september the executive committee held its first meeting last monday ten and organized the officers being M J richards chairman B D C call secretary james knudson treasurer the various committees were also named which are as follows fruit and display C G adney john P christensen and james jensen location concessions and attractions james knudson IV P crozier Croz ler will jensen finance and advertising B C call M J richards lUcli ards L J andersen sen A motion prevailed to hold the celebration tots year at the city park on west forest street providing the city council will grant permission and tile the committee on location was authorized to meet with the council and find out thol their r views in the matter after which another meeting will be called and more de definite finate action taken relative to that matter tho the matter of holding more than one days celebration was freely discussed and it has been decided to make the celebration at least two days duration and possibly three it was also decided so to name the institution brigham city peach day and county fair the executive committee has some splendid ideas relative to the manner in which the celebration should be conducted and the outline includes some needed improvements on the vacant plat north 0 of the pond dam which fits up with water in the winter and dries up in the summer alie the committee will likely petition the city to grant that piece of ground for an exhibition hibi tion square and then fix it up draining 0 off ff tho the water and f filling 1 in the low places placing the field ditch which feeds the pond under a benien cement t culvert which would be covered over with a foot or more of earth clear off all the willows burrs weeds etc levof level up the whole piece and the result would be a splendid square upon which to erect stalls and pens for cattle a display midway and other conveniences necessary to an up to date fair ground the same idea of improvement includes the renovation of the pond the erection of boat houses and the placing of boats upon the water to rent to pleasure seekers the committee also has in mind the purchase ol of the ball park it if a satisfactory price can bg be agreed upon and with the city interested in the park one of the greatest movements for the advancement of this city would be ba inaugurated the committee feels that peach day and the county fair are going to be of such proportions in the future that some provision must be made now while there Is an opportunity and nowhere in the experience of those who have been around some Is there a more natural and suitable location for a big pleasure park and fair ground than that surrounding the north pond in this city another thing planned for this year Is an avi atlin meet to bg be given out on the barrens with the consent of the cement company there Is no finer place anywhere in this country borsuch a meet the ground being smoothed and flexible so that starting and stopping would bould bo be a delight to the aviator it the program carries trains will be run from this city to the grounds by the oregon short line so that the crowds could be handled it Is also tile the intention to make a straightaway straight away race course out on the barrens and have horse races in connection with the aviation meet there are many other attractions which the committee have been discussing cus sing and they propose to leave nothing undone that will aid in making the occasion a big success the matter of 0 having peaches on distribution one day and near bear river valloy valley apples the next has been considered which would be a line fine thing also and much encouragement has been given by fancy poultry breeders bleeders bre eders in cacho cache county to the fair end of 0 the occasion for they would like to come over and exhibit some ot of their thoroughbred fowls the wheels have now been set in motion in the past they have never stopped until the last of the celebration has been cleaned up and the last bill paid judging tho the future by the past this year promises to see peach day and the county fair a bigger and brighter occasion ever because the wheels have been started revolving much earlier than hereto fora |
