Show V Sportstaculor uggetts to test Jazz Friday IZJIUTAH September r " by Keith Duncan The Utah Jazz will make their debut of pro basketball in Utah this Friday at the Dee Events Center 7:30 p.m. The Jazz have taken on a new look since they first left New Orleans last summer. Pete Maravich is still back with the Jazz and hell be a major attraction for the newly situated NBA franchise. Gone in a recent trade was Spencer Haywood, a household name around the NBA. In return, the Jazz received Adrian Dantley from the Los Angeles Lakers of whom Haywood was traded to. NBA veteran who played his college Dantley is a three-yea- r basketball at Notre Dame. He was drafted on the first round of the 1976 college draft by Buffalo. He was traded from Buffalo to Indiana for Billy Knight. Dantley then joined the Lakers that same season as part of a four player trade. He started with Denver in the ABA in 1969. He then played for Seattle, New York and the Jazz. Come 8ee Pistol Pete Maravich is sure to lure plenty of Utah fans to the Salt Palace this winter. He has proven himself as one of the finest playmakers and scorers in NBA history. Maravich begins his tenth year of professional basketball this season. Medical experts and Pistol himself feel that he is once again in top physical condition. Maravich has spent better than a year and a half of frustration, following a knee injury in January of 1978. He suffered a torn cartilage in his right knee, which forced him out of all but three games for the rest of the 1977-7-8 season. Following that season, Maravich had knee surgery to correct the damage. Faced with only two months of rehabilitation, Pistol Pete came back to action early for the start of last season. He played in d 49 games last year, wearing a knee brace, before doctors advised him to stop playing in . February and continue rehabilitation. After more than six months of strenuous rehabilitation work, Maravich is ready to come back and show the fans of Utah why he is one of the worlds most popular and greatest basketball talents. Maravich is expected to be one of the main cogs in Jazz coach Tom Nissalkes offense this season. Not only is he known as one of e basketballs scoring greats, Maravich is also one of the best passing guards to ever set foot on a basketball court.
