Show Sportstacular age 16 September 20, 1979 Bonneville collected their third straight victory of the season by downing Hillcrest of Salt Lake, 6 last Friday evening on the Huskies home field. Ted Richards SO yard field goal and a long punt return by Marvin Ellis helped secure the victory for the Lakers. 10-- fident heading into the leagues first contest with Clearfield. Clearfield comes to Bonneville for the Lakers homecoming celebrations this Friday afternoon at Laker Field. The game is scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m. Offensively the Bonneville squad looks tough to beat and may perhaps be the best in the league. Clearfield and Layton would probably dispute that, but with the likes of Marvin Ellis in your backfield, you may already be beaten. Ellis has scored six touchdowns in three games, four of those coming from runs from the scrimmage line and two on long punt returns. Coach Tom Budge has a little breathing room at the quaterback slot. Rich Blackburn has filled in brilliantly for junior, Cory Sylvester who suffered a serious illness Just as the season began. Blackburn directed the Lakers to a 27-- 0 season opening victory over Ogden and the next week helped defeat Box Elder, The second half touchdown by the Huskies was their first of the season and only the second touchdown against the Bonneville defense this season. The Lakers appear primed and ready to commense another season of Region One football. Coaches feel the team has improved with each game and are con-- ' 17-- 7. On the Clearfield side, Brook Hicks has established himself as a prime Region One quarterback. Brook can either throw or run, as he let everyone know last Friday at Davis. Hicks has three talented backs to handoff to. They include Dean Vernon. Tim Gooch and Scott Bybee. Gooch has noticed four TDs so far this season while Bybee has two and Vernon one. Bonneville definitely has the edge in the kicking department, at least on extra points. Clearfield has had trouble with them while Richard has sparkled for the Lakers. Both Richard and Hicks are good punters. The key to the Bonneville-Clearfiel- d clash may be how well the Falcons can contain Ellis. If Marvin gets the ball moving, it may be a long day for the visiting Falcons. The Bonneville defense has held its own so far this season against three good teams and still has allowed only 13 points. Clearfield on the other hand sports a strong defense too, but gets its biggest test this Friday in Washington Terrace. - Watch the offensive lines in this game. This, too, may be a vital key in the games outcome. . , The win Clearfield sustained over Davis last Friday was a key one indeed. Clearfield coaches wanted to come into the Bonneville game with a lot of enthusiasm and spark. By beating Davis they accomplished this. The Lakers are solid and are well coached. They are picked by many to take region and perhaps even the state title. Gearfield appears to be the second best team in Region One so Fridays encounter is no doubt the game to watch. v ' ' For your body building , maintenance programs & nutritional needs visit the has a Hillcrest Huskie all over him just as he pitches ball to running back Marvin Ellis.
