Despite gas shortages, nippy September weather and all other excuses you can think of, waterskiers continue to live on here in late September. A local, Rick Curtis, who onTy gets better the mere he goes out, isnt one to let the above obstacles stand in his way of enjoying a sport that has grown since the first day he stepped on a pair of skis. Today it isnt a pair anymore. Rick and those that buddy with him around Willard Bay or Pine View Reservoir are enjoying the entire setting slalom skiing. Rick, 18, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Curtis of Sunset, Utah. Curtis owns his boat and makes it a steady practice to hit the lake twice a week or more. Skiing in the summer hasnt really increased in popularity, said Rick, I think the gas shortage has a lot to do with that. Its not really important to have a good looking boat anymore because those kind of people who have them only go out once or twice and its not really worth it to them. Rick, who also show skis, says about the only similar thing between the two sports is just keeping your balance. Professionals may see more similar things, but thats all Ive noticed, he said. To become professional at the sport isnt really In Ricks plans, but only to have a lot of fun. Thats all there is to it. Some people get their kicks , g RANDALL JOHNSON water himself.
