Meanwhile, Lance 36-1- 4. dtawDu TTiitiams The Royal Varsity team added frosting to its Olympus cake on Friday on a victory, with just 38 seconds left on the clock. The Titans had led halftime, and were ahead 10-- 0 in the fourth quarter, and thats when Roy went to work. In a great defensive battle in the second half, both teams threatened on several occasions, but were halted deep in the enemies territory. Finally with 2:57 left in the game, Ken Hud- -' dleston exploded up the middle on a draw-pla- y that went for 37 yards and six points. The Royals went for a failed. P.A.T., but two-poi- nt come-from-behi- at Olympus had possession on their own 40 yard line, and had only to run out the clock, but Marv Stanger swiped the ball from a Titan runner, and Roy had one last chance, with just over a minute to play. The Royals with played Olympus, then Brad McCauley went on a down and out pattern for a pass from Bert Rich. An give-and-ta- Titan defender went for the interception, but missed, d and McCaulley into the over-eage- r tip-toe- H2--H end zone with just 38 seconds (o be played. Olympus had 266 yards rushing and completed 10 of 22 passes for an additional 91 yards, for a whopping 357 total yards, but the Titans fumbled six times and Roy recovered every one. The Royals came up with 260 total yards, but 217 of that total came in the second half. Bert Rich connected on 9 of 19 passes for 124 yards. Seven of his nine completions came in the second half of the ball game. Ken Huddleston rushed for 88 yards, and Jay Winward picked up 55 on the ground. Steve Richards, Todd Taylor and Marvin Stanger each made six tackles, and Stanger picked up two fumbles, including the one that set up the winning touchdown. It was a great football week for at every level. Roy k Jorgenson fired a pass to Bart Hadley, and quarterback Wade Jacklin, connected on a SO yard bomb to Ben Tafoya for T.D.S. Jacklin also scored three, half-bac- conversions; one on two-poi- nt , a keeper play, and he hit Eric Aaragon to two P.A.T. passes. Meanwhile back at home, things looked bleak for Roys J.V. team. The young Royals were down in the third quarter, and were having problems, moving against the Titans. In the first half Roy never got the ball beyond its own 40 yard line, but in the fourth quarter, the Royals caused an Olympus fumble on the Titan one foot line, and Roy got on the board. Roy went for the conversion, and Gary Anderson hit Paul Hansen to close the gap to with five minutes left in the game.v . Olympus drove the ball deep into Roy territory, but the Royals stopped the Titans on the one yard line and took over the ball. At this time, Olympus picked off a Roy pass, and took it in, but was tagged with a personal-fou- l penalty. The Titans retained possession of the ball, but out-o- n the 30 yard line, with ttyoimd a half minutes left to day. 13-- 0 two-poi- nt 13-- 8, , Paul Hansen forced another fumble, and Roy got possession on the fifty, with left to. be played, and no timeouts remaining. At this time the Royals got a few breaks; Gary Anderson threw the ball into the bleachers to kill the clock, but a Titan defender was caught holding a Royal receiver, while the ball was in the air, and that gave Roy on the fifty yard a line, with 21 ticks left on the first-and-t- clock. Coach Fred Thompson sent in a e play that worked to perfection and kept the Royal hopes alive. Quarterback Gary Anderson ran to the right on a keeper, and then fired a lateral pass back to Ken Huddleston, who rifled a pass to Paul Hansen, behind the Titan defenders. They ran Hansen out of bounds on the four yard line with just four seconds left in the game, but those Royals smelled victory and went after it. Gary Anderson took n the ball on a pass, and on the with no time remaining clock, hit Ken Huddleston for the T.D.
