Show FROM GREAT BRITAIN BRIGHTON sussex south coast england Englan rl march xyth 1897 A little over a year ago I 1 left my moun tain home for the missionary field in great britain and up to the present moment it has been a labor of love in traveling from town to town to village in the midst of strangers there may be dark moments yet the bright star of hope is our constant companion even the holy ghost which makes our yoke easy aud and our burden light I 1 can testify that I 1 have seen the hand of god in many things which I 1 should never have seen if I 1 had not been blessed with the happy privilege of leaving my home to cone co ne to this land to bear testimony of the gospel of jesus christ as revealed to the prophet joseph smith every missionary who lives strictly in the line of his duty receives his py pay as he goes along heaped up and running over what once was a trial to me is now a blessing when I 1 think my heavenly father found me worthy to labor in the vineyard and try in my weak way to raise 1 his chis so SOBS n s and daughters to a higher scale of behrig in this life and if faithful to the end to inherit the presence of our father and his son jesus ghrist I 1 have noticed many a faithful servant of god has sown the seed of truth in the hearts of sons and daughters of god but perhaps they have not seen the harvest alter after awhile another servant ot of god comes along and he gathers the wheat into the garner we all see such fruits of our labors as peace to the soul is far abaye the riches of this life in the early part of my miss missionary conary labor it appeared to me that the laborers were many and the harvest light As I 1 go along I 1 learn that I 1 dont know much about the ways of god only as he reveals a little to me in process of time elder solomon smith of draper and I 1 baptized some into the church of jesus christ at portsmouth a short time ago elder beatman and I 1 baptized eight good faithful souls in one day in southampton who can say the work of god is not growing it appears to me now that the harvest is great and the laborers are few I 1 have attended many places of worship since arrival in great britain and to my astonishment they nearly all tell me they are saved by the grace of god without works on their part parl some will go so far as to say that the more works we do the less chance we have of obtaining eternal life as jesus came and did al alland lland if we give our hearts to him all is done but the bible does not teach this much might be said to show that the revelations of god are true and f faithful ait hi ut I 1 1 and that just men have fallen by the wayside is a proof that men are not already saved but there is a judgment day or the word of god must be I 1 want to encourage the youth of zion they are blessed indeed to be born in that goodly land many yet have to learn how to appreciate their parentage and their blessed homes is the peaceful vales of utah young people love and honor your fathers and mothers that your days may be long in the land I 1 have spent most of my life fife in utah and I 1 want to testify that as far as I 1 have traveled in the world the lat ter day saints are the best living people thas I 1 know anything about As tax tar as I 1 have been salt lake city is the most moat orderly city and the best laid out of any I 1 have seen yet and I 1 have visited england ireland scotland and wales |
