Show Education Northern Utah Answers Weber State College celebrates centennial State College is now celebrating it’s festivities will run through June of 1989 as the Centennial slogan goes the first century was but a foundation to a bright future in Northern Utah At Weber State students may choose from 98 undergraduate programs as well as master’s degrees in education and accounting The faculty is 550 strong many of whom are Weber recognized nationally and internationally within their areas of expertise The school has an average yearly enrollment of roughly 11000 with students coming from Weber Davis Morgan and Box Elder Counties During each academic year approximately 25000 people take at least one class at the college and countless others attend special workshops seminars and conferences Weber State is acknowledged especially in the fields of allied health sciences education technology and business satellite to be sent into space was The first college-bui- lt built at WSC and has been placed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC A result of the “NUSAT I” satellite is the Center for Aerospace Technology now located at WSC The “CAST” is currently joining forces with Amateur satellites Satellite Incorporated to produce which will revolutionize the world of space technology These communications satellites will be used by France Brazil and Argentina with the AMSAT ground station for North America located on the WSC campus Weber State provides statewide leadership in many health fields All Utah paramedics and other emergency care personnel are trained at the Ogden school and the college has developed a distinctive multi tiered approach to nursing Utah’s only teaching crime lab is located in the WSC School of Social Sciences and one of the west’s only Centers for Science Education plays an importnat role in both local and regional academics Besides the strictly educational opportunities Weber State provides a number of cultural events Performances by such groups as the New York Philharmonic the Academy of Saint Martin’s in the Field the Vienna Choir Boys the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra Utah Symphony and Ballet West have performed on the WSC campus recently Scheduled for the school’s centennial celebration in 1988 and 1989 are groups such as the Moscow Classical Ballet Boston Pops Orchestra and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir The Browning Center for the Performing Arts and Dee Events Center have hosted such noteable popular performers Henas Barbara Mandrell Tom Jones Olivia Newton-Joh- n Willie Nelson Manilow Mancini Rogers Kenny ry Barry and John Denver The college also presents a wide variety of speakers who address students and community members It has hosted people such as Henry Kissinger Charleton Heston Ray Bradbury Neil Armstrong Gerald Ford and William F Buckley Jr Education continued to 21 ultra-compa- low-co- ct st The Bell Tower on the campus of Weber State College 1989 19 |
