She paid on time and in cash for nine years only to find out that this policy was not worth the paper it was printed on. I was so upset by what had happened to this lady that I called my agent to check on my own policy. He was very cooperative and answered all my questions. He also gave up a weekend evening to let me interview him Home about Owners Insurance so that we all can be well informed insurance holders. Mr. Brooke Thomas is from Thomas Insurance Agency, 3165 Highland Drive and can be reached at He is willing to answer any questions we may have about insurance. There are three types of Home Owners Policies. They are called forms 1, 2, and 3. Each company may vary a little in the coverage. Form 1, is what my 486-432- 8. r;A would not give me $10 for my refrigerator if it were to be stolen. I would get whatever the cost would be to replace it now. I pay $25 more a year for this coverage. Just think of how much you lose in value just the day you bring the new furniture home. After only four years that good couch is worth only a couple of dollars to most insurance companies. Could YOU afford to replace an entire home worth of furniture next week if you had a fire? Would your company give you enough money to replace it all at todays prices? Mr. Thomas tells me that a young couple, middle-age- d couple or a widow all need the same coverage. All of these groups would be hard a lady friend enjoy the evening at Magna Lion's installation pressed if a fire hit their home. The replacement cost would be just as important to each. Mr. Thomas feels strongly about the relationship between the agent and the client. He feels the client needs to be able to reach his agent or company at any time, ask questions, and be kept well informed. Brooke Thomas also feels that an agent has the responsibility to the client of making him aware of what is available, iF normal things are covered, and of all limitations. A lot of agents sell insurance part-tim- e and are not well informed about coverages. Some know very little about the policies. The client owes it to himself to read over the policy and ask all the questions you need to ask. Clients should also ask about coverage of special items such as; furs, money collections, stamps, guns, etc. If something happens these are the steps to take: 1. Secure the property from further damage; 2. Call your agent; 3. Call Utah Disaster for clean up; & Asst. I went one step beyond with my insurance I saw the movie, EARTHQUAKE and Im afraid of quakes. I have an additional policy, $50 per year that covers earthquake damage. It is a couple of hundred dollars deductible. If an earthquake comes, we could not afford to repair our home. We have a young family and a mortgage to pay. The repair costs would wipe us out. Being a resident in an earthquake prone state I feel more comfortable knowing we are covered. I do hope you will make sure what you THINK is covered reany is covered. Mr. tells me most companies dont write Form ls these days as it covers very little and doesnt meet the needs of most people. It may cover a select number of things under fire, water damage, etc. Form 2 covers more, but is again limited. There is only a $9 per year difference between the Form 1 and the Form 3. The Form 3 covers just about everything that could happen, except for earthquake or flood. I have a Form 3 Home Owners Policy with Safeco and Thomas Agency. If an iron tips over and burns a hole on the counter I am covered. My daughter spilled red Kool Aid from her bottle on a light carpet and it was covered. If the same thing happened to me as happened to my widow friend, I would be covered. COST REPLACEMENT CONTENT FULL VALUE insurance is new and a wise buy. By Jackie Parkins-Thayn- e Last week a woman called me for help about her Home Owners Insurance Policy. This lady lives alone on Social Security. She woke up one morning to find her small home flooded with water from her kitchen sink. She could NOT reach her agent for three days. When she was able to reach someone, they told her that her policy did not cover such items or damages. It will cost her over a thousand dollars to make her home near normal. She only has her monthly S.S. checks and a savings account to pay property taxes. The only way to get the money for repairs is for her to sell her modest home or all her family she said. She would be out in the street alone or in an empty house. Nine years ago this widow Home her purchased Owners Insurance Policy from her agent who. highly SAIT DESERT This week's tour encompasses the Bonneville Salt Flats, the remains of wagon trains more than a century old, ghost towns and the pony express route. This series will run for six weeks. The program is designed to lessen the anxiety often associated with cancer, says Ellen Eckels, Coordinator of the Coping with Cancer group. It helps learn specific participants 16 coping skills, such as relaxation and stress management techniques. The approach is one of en- couraging participants to realize and use their own inner resources and strength. There is also an effort to look at crises as a possible opportunity for new learning and growth. Patients are encouraged to bring their spouse or another person close to them to the meetings.
