Instead, whether in employment, at home, or in other activities, there remain twists and turns, changes and challenges to be met and mastered. Having announced her retirement from Kennecott, Mrs. Esther Matz, of Magna, paused a moment recently to reflect upon her 21 years of service as a Payroll Accountant in Kennecotts Controller department. For her, the time has passed swiftly through all of the changes and challenges that progress has provided. . When I first started in Payroll in 1959, she confided, we were working in the Kearns building. Previous to that time, I had been working for First Security Bank in Magna. At first, getting out a payroll involved a lot of detailed, work. Most people dont realize how demanding our jobs are, she added. There is little flexibility despite all kinds of I circumstances. remember one wintry night when we stayed until midnight to get our checks. Another time, we were buried by an 18 snowstorm that prevented most people from getting out of their driveways. But, the payroll well. was during this traumatic period that she received a poem penned especially for her by Rae Lynn Oman, a grandIt daughter living in Alpine. Entitled Cheer Up, these thoughtfully inscribed lines brought some timely encouragement and remain a source of inspiration. CHEER UP In every mothers life there comes a time when its a chore, To pick up playthings left behind by someone gone before. When all this time seems wasted and theres so much else to do, And so you feel confined because a child counts on you. But, then the child gets older . . . moves away the chance is gone, To do the little things that you had hated for so long. You dont feel very needed ... you feel old, and so removed, The things you thought a bother youd love so much to do. But again some things are left about advice Is needed too, And now you seem surprised at all the wonders you can do. At a time when many employers bemoan a decline in individual productivity, Mrs. Matz remains a refreshing reminder that selflessness, It is therefore personal integrity and individual responsibility are the cornerstones of successful living.
