report on theological seminaries was then taken up in the supple mio majority minority rity report several changes were made from the former report among them was a recommendation men dation to enjoin presbyteries Presby teries to see that the students under their care ve be prepared for their sacred office in seminaries and under teachers who arbun erthe er the oversight and direction of the assembly and that the board of education be directed to restrict appropriations for education ot of students to io ahse who are pursuing their studies under such institutions this is aimed at union seminary and puts on that institution a buye boycott ott as was forcibly stated during the ensuing discussion with regard to the seminary direct as to lo identity of transfers and original lual appointments in case ot professors it lip 1 recommended to say that the general assembly is constrained to insist upon its of terms of compact as given by the assembly at detroit the report recommends a negative answer to the memorial of union onion seminary directors asking the cooper co oper aaion of the general assembly in severing this thin connection it recommends recommend the adoption of a resolution declaring that the am assembly ana embly recognizes the wu quo as to difference of interpretation and agrees to refer differences on interpretation terp as to trazie transfers fers to a committee on arbitration of R five veto to be ba appointed by the moderator and five by the directors of the union seminary these ten to select five others the minority report recommends that union seminary be given liberty to honorably withdraw from the compact of 1870 and that a committee be appointed by the assembly to confer with all theological seminaries now under its if supervision touching their views of the agreement of 1870 and any new agreement they may devise and so formulate a now new agreement adapted to happily unite all ane seminaries under such general supervision by the general assen assembly ably as will tend to their safety in the church and efficiency in her work the same osame to be submitted to the general genera assembly of 1893 dr blayney of kentucky theological seminaries was resumed this evening the moderator took the floor to advocate the substitute offered by dr green of new jersey then a vote was token taken on the first portion of the minority report allowing union seminary to withdraw and it was lost with a roar few voting in its favor the remainder of the report was then voted down and dr greens green it substitute adopted it is of the relations of the assembly to theological seminaries and report to general assembly such action as ft thinks will result in closer relations the committee of conference appointed laet year to be co i cittee declined to express an opinion the vote to sustain the appeal wasso was so large that the general sentiment lathat is that of satisfaction but those who for constitutional reasons voted against the appeal in toto are preparing a formal protest which will be largely signed and will be entered upon the minutes tomorrow a formal resolution disposing of the case will be offered and it is
