Show SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION the officers and teachers of the sunday schools of this stake met monday may 6 in the fourteenth ward assembly rooms booms stake superintendent perin john C cutler presiding the opening and closing sin singing glog exercises were excellently rendered by the thirteenth ward choir Steu superintendent dent willard done of the eleventh nth ward school offered the opening prayer sister constance of the thirteenth ward War dread read a very interesting essay emay on the subject of truth written by sister eliza platt superintendent win naylor ot of the thirteenth ward school addressed the meeting the sunday school interest was one of considerable importance in the hurch of christ As the teachings imparted in these schools were doing much good in training the children in the principles of the gospel a much greater interest should be taken in them than is apparently manifested by many the speaker exhorted the young men to take part in the exercises of the public meetings of the latter day saints and gain a little experience in the work of the ministry and prepare themselves by study to fill lives of usefulness in the church of god the speaker related his experience as a missionary to the sandwich islands sister leah dunford and brother joseph platt sang a duet which was excellently rendered sister louie platt followed with a recitation janes conquest which was most graphically rendered and much appreciated by all present superintendent willard done was the next speaker pew few he be said eve of active sunday school workers realized the greatness of their labors as teachers or sensed the responsibility resting reefing upon them it was said that the worker in the sabbath school labored freely for the good of others but their view was not the correct one the reward sought by the sabbath school worker was the greatest within the reach of humanity namely the approbation of the heavenly father president clent joseph E taylor said that no one was qualified to teach the children of the latter day saints unless he be had the spirit of god in his heart nor could he teach with success unless he be sought by prayer for the aid of gods spirit to have a part in the training of the children of the saints was not only a noble work but a very grave responsibility the guardian angels which accompanied every child into and through the world were silent witnesses of tho the correctness and thoroughness of the instructions given and the parent or the teacher who did not do his duty would someday some day feel fee the weight of their calling and responsibility superintendent J C cutler made a few remarks and announced that the fourteenth ward school vi would furnish part of the gramme pro and singing exercises at the june jude meeting of the union |
