The Burch Mann Scholarship Fund will provide as many as five scholarships per year to students interested in dance as a career. Funds for the endowment have come through private contributions and through a challenge grant from southern California philanthropist Lloyd Rigler, chairman of the Adolphs Foundation in Los Angeles. Michael D. Richards, assistant to the president, said that the first scholarships will be awarded in 1984. The number of available scholarships will be based on the mix of resident and recipients," he said. "Mr. Rigler has always been a great friend to the American Folk Ballet and has helped in many capacities, Mann said. His contributions toward the development and training of dancers here on campus is very gratifying. Im confident that he will be very happy with the results. Directed by Mitzi R. McKay, a senior theatre arts major from Bountiful, the production is a r for the SUSC Drama Club with proceeds earmarked for a trip this spring to New York. Production dates are Dec. 2 and 3 and also Dec. 5 through 9. Curtain time is a half hour earlier than usual at 7:30 p.m. in the SUSC Auditorium. Tickets are now available at the SUSC Box Office, at $3 for adults and senior citizens and $2 for SUSC students, high school students and children five and up. Because this is a fundraiser and is not listed as theatre part of the regular season, the price of admission isnt included in the season pass. The George M. Cohan drama takes place at Baldpate Inn. Two additional instructors have joined the faculty since the dance program began Kay Anderson, teaching tap and jazz dance and Heidi Neilson, teaching folk dance. Mann founded the American Folk Ballet 25 years ago, a professional company that has made five national tours, extended trips to Greece and Israel, and performed at the Inauguration of President Jimmy Carter. Among the many awards for dance and choreography she has received are the coveted Dance Masters of America Award and the Dance in Action Award. There are site modern, six classical ballet, four tap and three folk dance classes offered through the department of theatre and dance. Still another class is offered advanced students in American folk ballet, and an ensemble group is training for tours. The latter group, the Sojourners, will be ready within a year, Mann said, and perhaps sooner. Another class, dance for children, has been developed especially for dance instructors. Ross, Sandy, and Mel Close, Cedar City. Teresa Francis, Farmington, is the stage manager; Anne Maria Jacobson, Salt Lake City, is assistant stage manager. J. Troy Lunt, Cedar City, is in charge of entertainment.
