Winter quarter registration to begin today Early registration for winter quarter classes will begin today and continue through Dec. 16. Winter quarter dasswork starts Jan. 3. Schedules are now available for 50 cents each in the Registars Office, Administration 207. Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each d basis at the Registrars day on a first come Office, said Registrar Barbara Young. Gary Dunford, director of counseling and testing, said he strongly suggests that students seek the assistance of their academic advisers in planning their schedules. Many students take far more credit hours than are required to graduate due to poor planntng, he said. We are concerned that many students register for classes without understanding exactly what they are doing Young said she recommends that students see their advisers and have their schedules filled out correctly before they actually register because each add or drop of classes will cost $ 1 . The charge is designed to discourage students from making as many changes as were made last quarter, said Barton. Last quarter alone add and drops totaled We are concerned, that many students register for classes without understanding exactly what they are doing. over 3,800, this is at least a 30 percent increase over the previous quarter which means almost every student added or dropped at least one class, he said. It isnt necessary that students pay winter quarter fees during early registration, Young said, but it is encouraged in order to avoid long payment lines after the beginning of the year. Barton apologized for delays in getting schedules to students. The printing problems were out of my hands but we hope that it wont happen again. We want to make things as convenient for the students as possible. The schedules will contain a calendar of events, instructions for registration and a schedule of all the classes available. All new freshmen or transferring freshmen are required to take Arts and Letters 101, College Orientation, said Barton. I also suggest that students sign up for Arts and Letters 201, which is the Convocation Series. Fees can be paid at the cashiers office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during early registration. A copy of the students obtained at the time of registration class schedule must accompany fee payment. |
