Show The Tfumderbird Page 37 Monday, September 26, 1983 Thunderbirds pounce on Highlands miscues . x '- "- vt:T . o ;V : I v H ' V p"r fV s Junior tailback Juan Henderson scored three touchdowns and gained 89 yards on 15 carries to lead the SUSC Thunderbirds to 25-- 3 win over New Mexico Highlands in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference football action Saturday. SUSC displayed a stingy defensive attack that closed down any threat by the visiting Cowboys to establish a passing attack. Highlands did not gain a single first down through the air on the day, while defensive backs intercepted more passes than three different Cowboy quarterbacks completed. As is customary this season, the machine didnt warm up until early in the second quarter. Though SUSC threatened to score first, signal caller Kirk Hafen was intercepted line midway at the Cowboy through the first quarter. Highlands capitalized on the turnover, field and David Lucero kicked a goal, the only Cowboy score on the day. Following a Babe Malafau interception, kicker Rick Harrison matched field goal of Luceros feat with a his own to tie the game five minutes into the second quarter.
