The actual test will be given at SUSC Oct. 29. The three hour and 15 minute assessment measures a students achievement levels in English, social science, math and natural science in terms of local and national percentiles. An interest inventory is included with the test. Students take the hour-lon- g assessment when they register to take the ACT. According to Dr. Gary Dunford, director of counseling inventory helps the student decide upon a vocational choice and an educational major. It is also used, he said, by the college in development of student profiles. ACT forms can be obtained at the SUSC Counseling Center, Administration Building 102, or from high school counselors. Information about the test and the many additional counseling aids available at SUSC can be obtained by calling or SUSC extension 5420. 586-542- toll-fre- Get credit for life's lessons College credit for what youve learned in life no matter where or how you learned it can be earned through the College-levExamination Program again this year at Southern Utah State College. CLEP tests will be administered this year on an individual basis, said Gary Dunford, SUSC director of counseling and testing. Arrangements to take the tests can be made by contacting the SUSC Counseling Center rather than waiting for a predetermined testing date. General examinations in English, humanities, natural sciences, mathematics and social sciences-histor- y are available at SUSC along with additional specialized tests or subject examinations. Each CLEP test costs $28. Those who earn CLEP credit can save a great deal of time and money while working toward a college degree, the counselor continued. CLEP was designed for the nontraditional student who has acquired knowledge through correspondence and extension courses, educational television, adult education programs, training and independent study, Dunford said. It is based on the concept that what people know is more important than how they learned it.. Counseling services are available, free of charge, for anyone interested in the CLEP program or any other counseling and testing services offered at SUSC. Information is available, and appointments can be made, by calling or SUSC extension 5420. 1 40 North Moin Street The Home Furnishers Cedar City. The industrial revolution made us civilized by freeing us from manual drudgery. With the information revolution the computer frees us from the drudgery of calculation, said Chandler Whitelaw, the computer centers director. Whitelaw went on to say, My major, electronic engineering, required the use of computers to work out difficult and complex problems. It was then that I discovered that I would rather use them than build them and thats how I got to where I am today. Mrs. Whitelaw also works with computers. She writes and sells programs and has written numerous articles about computers. i The Whitelaws have six home computers which their children use as much as they do. For students who would like to have access to the computers, but do not plan on taking any computer classes, an individual study account can be opened for $15 per quarter. Whitelaw explained that there' are two computer labs on campus for student use and a third is soon to be in operation. Sixteen terminals are housed in the Science Building; the business lab will soon be operating with at least eight. The third lab is planned for the libiery and will eventually accomodate at least eight also. Students who have their own computers witli communication abilities and a modem, a device which allows the home computer to be hooked in with the main computers on campus, have three dial up telephone numbers available to them. 7 231 N. 1100W. 546 N.
