| Show THE NEW registration the discussion ot of the commissioners ruiea rulea and the comments thereon which hare bavo im appeared in the local papers there are many intelligent people who do not seem to understand the necessity of what they call registering over again thera there la some excusa exclusa for this because the law does not r fro pro provide ro for registration reregistration re nor for erasing names from the registry list lisi except for good and Buffi sufficient clent cause they do not see sea how euch such things which are contrary to law can be done in the name of the law they understand that the law provides for a revision of the registry lists but does not require a new registration they will have to learn that we are living in peculiar times and that a grer great many things may bo be done with the cormons mormons Mor mons which would not be attempted with other othor people also that those who call the mor cmor mons mono faw jaw breakers will violate law with impunity when working in anti antl Mormon interests we again repeat that all persons whose names are aro now on the registry lists who do not appear at theoffice the office of the registrar of their precinct and take the oath prescribed by the commissioners will have their names stricken from the lists and will not nov be permitted to vote at the november election the wrong of this thia wo we do not dispute we WO merely state the fact that this may be everywhere understood our readers should repeat it to their neighbors and acquaintance acquaintances sj and impress upon all with whom they converse the necessity of complying with the rule if 1 able to do BO so that they may not be deprived of the right to vote which they have heretofore enjoyed the workings of this rule are po iso arbitrary and manifestly un unreason remon able and that it Is no marvel our friends should disso discredit its application pil cation catlon the object of the law on which the rule is predicated Is to prevent bigamists biga mists and polygamists ana and their wives from voting and holding office it was not inte intended to disqualify monogamists male or female mormon ormon or gentile 11 but this rule requires the names of monogamists to be erased from the registry lists who do not appear before the registrar of the gro precinct during the second wook to in septem ber her and take a certain oath not provided for by law A man or woman who has broken no law if absent from home during daring that week or if unacquainted witti tho the provisions provi provit ions dona of the rule will be dis franchised for election purposes this year and cannot be restored to the rights nights thus wrested from them unless they can resistor anew next year thia this la Is manifestly unlawful ful bul and decidedly absurd its illegal ity ought to be demonstrated in la the courts aa as soon as possible but whether the rule Is right or wrong reasonable or ridiculous valid or invalid im valid every man and woman of the peoples party who can conscientiously take the oath prescribed should do BO so aa as week as possible they will have to go to the office of the precinct cD registrar we shall endeavor to publish the places where the tho registrars will havo their offices before tho the time for registration people who have been registered before must now stand on the bame same ground as thosa who have never been becu regis all must take the oath or be de barred from voting dont dan t forget this and do not fail fall to impress it upon the minds of others othero |
