S. tv 01 Clara Made Petersen STATISTICS said Tuesday he received a telephone apology from Health. Education and Welfare Secy. David Mathews for commenting on national television Sunday that Moss had been arrested in Michigan during his Medicaid hwestigation. Moss said he is expecting a written retraction from Mathews for the mistake. "He's uptight. Ile's feeling the pressure of these events," Moss said. "I was never arrested during the investigation," he said. "The Medicaid card I used, I signed for and received legally. its a common investigative tool." He said Mathews' mistake might have resulted from three other Medicaid investigators being ushered out of a Medicaid provider's office. No charges were filed against them either, Moss said. The senator made the statement at a press conference Tuesday as he met with John McClelland. president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employes, which is holding its national convention at the Salt Palace. Speaking at the convention banquet Tuesday night, Moss said America has retained the rights oiriginally planned for in the Constitufion and made strides forward to greatness. "Today, 200 years later, we can report to them (the forefathers) that all is well. Tell James Madison, who proposed the Bill or Rights, that those rights are still intact, virile, still precious to every American." Moss said that as a people, Americans have "been more than mere custodians of the We have built upon them." rights. He said Watergate is a monument to the fact that the constitutional checks and balances have not weakened with age: that the forefathers would marvel with reeeni American history dealing with civil rights and that the wealth of the United States is unparalleled Hosartal HOLLINGER.
