Show The Payson Chronicle, April 1, 1998, Page 12 SOUTH UTAH COUNTY RODEO CLUB SPOTLIGHT Administration Appointments Made By Nebo School Board Of Education During the Spanish Fork Area School Board Meeting, the Nebo Board of Educa- tion appointed several educators to fill ad- - . A . l4 ! , ministrative positions, including Tim , . Johnston and Scott Carson. TIM JOHNSTON will be the principal of Barnett Elementary School in Payson. Tim has been in education for 16 years and has been the assistant principal at Payson High School. He has been named as an Outstanding Young Man of America and in Whos Who Among American Teachers. Tim has also been the president of the Nebo Education Association. He enjoys snow skiing, gardening, and r U.S. History. He is and hardworking. He and his wife Rebecca are the parents of four children: Kasey, Korey, Makay and McKenzie. Tims parents are James and Mary Johnston of Pleasant Grove and Rebecca is the daughter of David and Joy Gledhill of Springville. Tim will be receiving his doctorate from B YU in Education Administration. Mr. Johnston feels this new appointment will be an awesome challenge and is glad to be a part of a great program. He is replacing Ryan Creer who is retiring this year. SCOTT CARSON will be the principal at Santaquin School. Scott has been serving students for the past 11 years at Brookside and Brockbank Elementary. He has earned the honor of Teacher of the Year for Brock-ban- k and a Fellowship in the Utah Writing Project. He is also involved with the Utah National Guard. Mr. Carson enjoys reading, writing, musical performance, Elvis Presley and the Utah JAZZ. He believes in the philosophy of TEAM (Team Effort Accomplishes the Mission). He and his wife Carina are the parents of three children: Bethany Nicole, Hannah Michelle and Emma Marie. Mr. Carson will not take this responsibility lightly. He pledged to honor this trust. Kim Barlow is leaving as principal of Santaquin to be the principal of Wilson Elementary School in Payson. Board Member Collin Allen commented on the importance of a good principal in a school and how much the principal impacts the educational process in a school. He also thanked Superintendent Poulsen, every administrator, teacher and staff member because "...these people love kids from the top to the bottom." fun-lovi- The South Utah County Rodeo Club would like to spotlight Shawn Silcox. Shawn is a senior at Payson High School, where he maintains a 3.8 grade point average. His parents are Brad and Julie Silcox. At high school rodeos, Shawn competes in Bull Riding and Bareback. He is currently sitting 7th in the Bull Riding and 2nd in the Bareback on the State level. Shawn has won three saddles, one from being the All Around Cowboy at Cedar City. He also won the Bareback saddle at the Panguitch Invitational, and the Western States Final Bull Riding 'Saddle. Just recently, Shawn won the Area Contest with his FFA proficiency, and will be receiving his State FFA degree. Shawns goal is to become a veterinarian and to be professional rough stock rider. On February 22, 1 998, the rodeo club held a barrel racing as a fund raiser. There, Shawn helped the club out tons, always willing to help set up barrels and rake. Thanks, Shawn! We think you are great! The rodeo club members are getting excited about the upcoming Spring rodeos. The first ones will be held in Ogden and Pleasant Grove. "And This Is The Life That Tomy Built" -Tomy Davenport Earns Eagle Scout Award On July 10, 1982, Tomy was Davenport born to Randy and Donna Davenport at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah. He is the oldest of 4 children. Tomy will receive his Eagle Scout Award on April 9, 1998, at a Court of Honor to be held in the Goshen LDS Ward Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Tomy has overcome lots of obstacles in his life. No matter what has happened to him, he hasnt let anything keep him down, either in school. Scouts, or his church assignments. The climb to becoming an Eagle has been a long and hard struggle, but because of his determination he has still attained his goals. He has had articles published in the newspaper. He has performed in school-playand plays the clarinet in concert band as well as the Pep band. He has been active in church and Scouting programs from deacons quorum president to senior patrol leader. He has always taken his callings and assignments very serious and always did the best job he could and then some. He has performed many hours of service to both the church and community. His Eagle service project served the Utah County Food Bank by collecting and donating over 450 pounds of food and personal hygiene projects. Tomy has also been a good example to his younger brother and sisters, and helps at home with even such things as the dishes and cooking.
