Quilting is a From colonial beginnings to the Western Frontiers, women in America have always quilted together for purpose and for pleasure, and within a diversity of age, religion and lifestyles. This group of contemporary Utah quiltmakers grew out of a University of Utah class on nineteenth-centur- y quilts taught by Sandi Fox, Los Angeles, quiltmaker and historian. This association of quiltmakers has remained intact for two decades. The groups diversity extends to the surfaces of their quilts, from textile abstractions to experimentations with variations on traditional geometric constructions. Their work is distinguished by technical excellence and characterized by a vigorous use of color and shape, all a part of the continuing tradition of American quilts and quiltmakers. e The Traveling Exhibition Program is a outreach service of the Utah Arts Council. The program provides schools, museums, libraries and galleries throughout the state with a variety of exhibitions. Scout Banquet by Kirk Winegar A Scout Banquet was the event full of exciting activities, special awards, and great food! We also had the privilege of modem Mountain Men coming to captivate us with skills and crafts. One night full of excitement! Santaquin Fifth Ward held a Scout Banquet on February 28, 1996. Scouts from Cub Scouts all the way through Explorers attended with their families. A few awards for some Cub Scouts were presented in traditional fashion, such as dragging a parent up to be pinned with a small trinket to remember the moment. Dutch ovens contained feasts waiting to satisfy our growling stomachs and stop us from licking our lips as the sweet aroma filled the air. But in spite of all the laughter and fun, we must remember the main reason why we were there. To remember what we as Scouts stand for, what we honor and cherish, and most of all, our families and how important they are to us. Also, that Scouting can be so much fun. d mouth-waferi- FARM, TRUCK, HEAVY DUTY IN STITCHES by Norene Jensen Blizzards and fog have not stopped the stalwart quilters of our area.
