Show Roger Bushman Appointed Principal At Mount Loafer, New Elementary School Wes Johnson State Champion Roger Bushman has been appointed the first principal of the Mt. Loafer Elementary School in Salem. His immediate goal is to surround himself with good people who are caring and competent. From 20 years of experience, he knows there is no substitute for a dedicated, professional staff. He taught students at Grant Elementary and Art City Elementary before becoming principal of Taylor Elementary and then Wilson Elementary. He adores his wife Penny who teaches at Payson Junior High and credits her as his primary course of strength and support "She and I are a team," he says. "I wouldnt be much good without her." They are the parents of six children and one grandson. Mr. Bushman summed up many of his insights about people and education in his poem, which follows: We are all travelers, but with different wings We are all ignorant, but of different things. Payson High Schools Wes Johnson took state at the Four and Five A State Wrestling Championships held in Ogdens Golden Spike Arena two weeks ago. At 119 pounds, the high school senior to wrestled top kids from each region earn his title. In the first round of competition, he wrestled a student from Murray, beating him by a major decision. The second round was against a Box Elder wrestler, who, by tire way, and in the third round, beat a is considered one of the top wrestlers, and beat him 10-Mountain Crest student by a major decision. Taking on a young man from Sky View in the finals, Wes made the win with a pin (he held his opponents shoulders to the mat for more than two seconds). Wes is the son of Rick and Jolene Johnson of Paysoa His father coached wrestling for the past eight years, resigning last year. Of the eight years involved in the sport, he says that there have been ten other state champions from Payson High School. Another wrestler who fared well at the championship event was B.J. Wright, who placed second. He was a state champion last year. 5; Roger & Penny Bushman Mittelman Court Date July 8 Former Payson City Councilman Kirk E. Mittleman and his wife, Margaret, will stand trial July 8 for two Class-misdemeanor charges of abusing their two daughters by striking them. A preliminary hearing last week determined that the daughters will not have to testify at the trial. A transcript from an earlier hearing will be used. The trial concerns a September, 1994, incident involving the two girls and their parents, the result of the girls having sneaked out of the house and returned in the early morning A hours. The two girls recanted earlier testimony that a gun had been brandished by Mittelman, who is a Payson City Police Officer, and felony charges were dropped last year. Part of the traditionThe al spring ritual is the Payson Scottish Associations Annual Spring Ceilidh which will be held on Saturday, March 23, 1996, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Payson City Center, 439 West 100 South.
