Show The Payson Chronicle, March 6, 1996, Page 8 Thirteen Contestants To Vie For Miss Payson Crown Thirteen contestants will vie for the coveted crown of Miss Payson at the scholarship pageant on Saturday, March 16, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Payson High School Auditorium, 1050 South Main. Tickets can be purchased in advance from contestants or board members at a cost of $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, and $15 for a family ticket of six. as Master of Ceremonies will be a team, Miss Utah Amanda Moody and her father Del Moody. Amanda was a preliminary talent winner in the Miss American Pageant, a nonfinalist talent winner and recipient of tire prestigious Bemie Wayne Scholarship, which is given to the contestant who receives the most points in the talent portion of the competition. Amanda is a sophomore at Brigham Young University, majoring in Piano Performance and Pedagogy with a minor in Psychology. She has also studied piano at the Gnesin Institute in Russia. She is a state and national level winner of numerous piano competitions and has soloed with several symphonies, including three times with the Utah Symphony. Amanda firmly believes in the healing power of music, and during her service as Miss Utah has inspired and encouraged many people through this powerful medium. Amandas father, Del, is a retired businessman from Orem. He is also an accomplished musician, writing music for and recording six albums with his family who have performed professionally throughout the U.S. His honors include eight awards from the Nashville Billboard Songwriters Contest for several of his country western songs. Del began working with pageants in 1984 when his wife Chris was third runner-u- p in the Mrs. Utah Pageant. It has continued as three of his four daughters have held titles in the Miss America System. Gina, his oldest, was Miss Orem; Jessica was Miss Utah Valley, Miss Utah County, and first runner-u- p to Miss Utah; and Amanda is currently Miss Utah. His youngest, McKenzie, is only 13 years old and planning her talent number. Del is an avid fisherman and a guide on lakes and rivers in Utah, Mexico, and Canada. father-daught- er Jacob Savea Ah Mu One Year Old Jacob Savea Ah Mu celebrated his first birthday on February 23, 1996. His big brother Sam, along with many other family members, helped him celebrate. We are so blessed to have Jacob in our family. Hes a special boy. We love you, Jacob. Jacob is the son of Joseph and Cindy Ah Mu of Provo. His grandparents are Don M. and Barbara Christiansen of Payson, and Richard and Edna Ah Mu of Independence, Missouri. His are Glen and Lillian Christiansen of Payson, and Louisa Free an Ah Mu of Independence, Missouri. McKinley Orton One Year Old McKinley Orton, daughter of Mark and Melanie Orton of Payson, celebrated her first birthday on March 2, 1996. She has two sisters, Aubrey and Melissa. McKinleys grandparents are Ronald and Ruth Stewart, and Ken and Nelda Orton, all LaVar Hiatt lives in Payson, and her Elaine Westover lives in Joseph City, Arizona. Great-grandmoth- Mindy Engle Earns Young Womanhood Award Recognition Camille Mindy Engle, daughter of LaVar and Patsy Engle, received her Young Womanhood Recognition certificate and medallion on Sunday, February in the Payson Mountain View 18, 3rd Ward. Mindys projects were Christmas baskets for shut-incollecting 3rd Ward Nurtoys for the newly-forme- d sery, volunteer work at the Senior Citizens, and she spent unnumbered hours on overnight stays as a companion for elderly women. er TIM LEACH'S Mechelle Mecham To Report On Missionary Service In Kentucky On March 17 Mechelle Mecham, daughter of Don and Viola Mecham, will be returning home March 14, 1996, after serving an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Saints. She served for Christ of Latter-da- y 19 months in the Kentucky Louisville Mission. Sister Mecham will give her mission report on March 17th at 10:45 a.m . in the Genola LDS Chapel, Center and Main.
