The crust comes from Karen Waldburger and she says it's fool proof and will work for fruit pies, shell pies or whatever you want. Here it is all you smart cooks. Make it and you can go bragging too. The holiday season is also one of the worst seasons for depression, and can be one of the loneliest times for us, even when surrounded by people. Here are some ideas on how to avoid holiday depression. Follow them and youre more likely to e the holidays in a better frame of mind. 1. Identify your hopes for the holidays. Be honest and discard the unrealistic dreams of how it once was - or you hope it could be. Work at accomplishing the rest, TV programs and commercials show an idealized way of cele-- g brating that never did exist and does not today. It is unreal and we should accept it as unreal, 2. Dont wait to be invited to a par-- g ty - throw your own. It doesnt have to be fancy, but take the initiative, Dont assume everyone but you has holiday plans. They dont, 3. Give gifts that are offbeat and give an unexpected helping hand to someone, or make your own gifts. Share responsibilities for holiday preparations so no one person is burdened with the cooking, shopping, decorating, etc. Plan well ahead of time so there wont be a last minute panic. Keep the last week before Christmas entirely free of shopping except for perishable foods. 8. Have a clear understanding with your partner or yourself, about holiday spending. Set a budget, stick to it, and avoid those January bills. 9. Dont throw over your whole routine for the holidays. Make a special effort to continue your exercise program, to eat regular meals, and deal with everyday problems as they come up. Dont stockpile a list of problems for the New Year. 10. Be prepared for the holiday aftermath as well. Don't lull yourself with the illusion that the New Year will somehow erase all your old problems, anxieties and -- munity plays, other public events that you can share with others. Life does go on as usual, and you still have to go to work, clean the house, tend the children and cook ordinary meals.
