AAA A A Threatened WEST VALLEY. City officials here Tuesday passed an ordinance o severely restricting dancing in the city, but opponents vowed to challenge the law in court. Ronald D. Pyle of Gemini Productions, an go-g- agency representing about 20 dancers, said the city ordinance will be contested in court, either as a civil or criminal case. But, in presenting the ordinance to the City "Commission Tuesday, City Attorney Ron Greenhalgh said he was confident the ordinance would be upheld in court. As written, the ordinance does not prohibit go-g- o dancing. But it makes regulations for dancers so restrictive that, in effect, they will be unable to ply their trade in the city. The provision which has drawn the most opposition is the requirement that dancers wear bikini tops rather than pasties. If a guy can go two blocks down the road (outside city limits) and see a girl with pasties on, hes not going to go to a bar where dancers are wearing a bikini top. Its going to put those bars out of business, Pyle said after the meeting. Other provisions of the ordinance prohibit dancers from mingling with customers and respace quire a six-fo- separating dancers from onlookers. Dancers and booking agencies also will be required to post bonds that could be forfeited if any of the ordinances provisions are violated. Pyle said the or- dinance probably would be challenged in a criminal case, as a result of a dancer being ticketed for violating the ordinance. A civil case would represent a direct challenge to the constitutionality of the ordinance, Greenhalgh said. Greenhalgh admitted to the City Commission that the issue had not been clearly decided in other states where court KEARNS - (From Page 7, Col. 9) and over were Val Gidney, LeeAnn Middleton, Lynette Becky Forsyth, Middleton, Rebecca Engle, Paula Jeff Walton, Cynthia Paton, Brenda Larsen, Cynthia Williams, Torie Frew, Octavia Blow. It (the ordinance) has been struck down in some; upheld in others. But if I was a betting man, Id say the orgo-g- o dinance would be upheld, he added. said he Greenhalgh wos interested to see if ordinance opponents follow through with the challenge. Contending West Valley was wasting tax- payers dollars and creating unnecessary pandemonium about 100 for dancers, Pyle said bar owners, dancers and booking agencies are going to unite to fight the city. Its going to cost West Valley a lot, he warned. Pyle said the ordinance also will be coslty for some bar owners, putting four or five in the city out of business. He told the commission that no nude dancing (the official title of the ordinance) occurs in the city at this time, a contention disputed by several city officials. Their statements to the contrary are based on reports by undercover County Sheriffs Department vice squad officers. Pyle also argued that what is visible in bars with go-gdancers can be seen every day at swimming pools and GLORIA VANDERBILT ENTIRE STOCK 50 OFF Sold Elsewhere $28 - $50 x Price Chi((fiVllK..,' 99 - $24. 99 OUR PRICE $ 13.
