Beal "Thou shalt call his name Jesus. for He it is shall save His people from their sins." Although sin is so persistent, and has made such sad havoc in this beautiful world, there is a way put; and by this way all may be saved from sin, and be safeguarded from its consequences. Now, salvationibis being saved from sindoes not mean merely "getting to heaven" when we die. There is very much more to it than ,,- . - , , ?,, st.-.1- 1 - there in who the kind Father of creation makes the flowers beautiful and Who feeds the birds of the sir. as curing Us that, very much more, will He provide for every need of the cons of men. He speaks often. and at length, of the Kingdom-oHeaven, which is to say. the away or domination of the Divine Spirit In every soul, and in all luiman afnew accession of Ete direct fairsa from the very source of tifeutileh shall bring all to know. tort and obey Him. For.- as we read. ; am come that yo might have life and (Ricks College) evil exists is a question WHY that nearly all of us have asked. Indeed, there are two things first, how very hard to understand: evil can continue when it is so life and of law to every contrary every real interest of mankind, simand the plain' and, second, Why ple laws of God are not obeyed by everyone. The laws given us in the Gosptl demand nothing, and expect us to do nothing beyond the things which we were- evidently planned and created to perform. A steam engine products motion and power from the pressure of the expanding steam. Just so every human soul was designed and constructed forth to bring righteousness through the power toandfindoperation its real of God's Spirit, and happiness in so doing. us none of Because obey laws completely, life is so full of troubles, sorrows and sore trials, and, even at their best and greatest, there is so much more besides that people miss and long for. But ' true religion and the law of righteousness, when properly understood. are simply and only the appointed means- for attaining that real happiness. prace, and fullness of life, which all of us desire. Gives Questions Strange as it may seem to hear It. most people really want to obey the Gospel, and, very probably. would do so, except that they seem not to know how. In any event. obtain the good they desirecanto come that only from such obedience. They try to achieve the ends, but do not understand the only true means to such ends. Thuth they hope to compel righteousness in human affairs through schemes of social reorganization, advocating revised methoelS for government, or In enacting new and strict laws against crimes and evil practices. But there are so many evils that no such influence could reach or control: Some new and effective power for good ends is needed in human society. Meantime, thoughtful people are wrestling with the problems r ot.the day. Continually we hear such questions as these: Why should 'poverty exist in this world of plenty: why should not all people be able to obtain of enough for the necessities life? endbe should there this Why less strife between employers and employed; why should not alt cooperate for common interests? Why must so many good and true souls be crushed in the dust, to die in agony and despair, no whit better, while others, have more than sufficient for every desire, and squander in foolishness what totthi nourish loam- a helpless child? must we be menaced conand tinually by intemperance foul brutal ignorance, by vices, diseases. unhealthful conditions of living and war: why cannot all enjoy intelligence, and live full, normal and clean lives? Why do so many people who profess to be religious, behave with no grcater consideration toward their fellows; why cannot religion be equally effective on every day of the week? The Only Answer All the evils of life which we deare the results of sin. And Sin plore Is merely living in forgetfulness or disbelief of the Gospel Righteousness, the opposite of sin. is possible only when God is recognized. and complete only when knowledge of Bim is complete. The Gospel supplies the only answer to our questionings. it alone enables us to obey the laws of life, because it establishes the reality of the Creator. It is the taw of Life stated by the Author of Life. A tree grows and spreads its branches, because it isa alive: but the wood with which man builds his house Is dead, and incapable of growth. So, also. is the difference between GOcra work and mans effortsbetween the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the theories of human wisdom and ingenuity.
