The study would consider a variety of techniques including trail and road relocations or closures, shifting livestock grazing from unsuitable slopes or riparian areas, gully plug construction, and revegetating unstable slopes with seedings or contour furrowing. The objective of the project is to stabilize soils, reduce erosion, and improve water quality in Salina Creek. Secondary objectives are to improve fishing opportunities and improve the scenic values of this area. Salina Creek was tested in 1988 to determine the stream's natural potential for fishenes productivity, habitat quality and water quality. Test results indicate the stream is in just fair condition, far from its potential to provide fishing opportunities and clean water. Also high on the list are an old pioneer wagon odometer and the Enoch Train ship model. These and other popular histori- cal artifacts will be part of a new historical exhibit set to open to the late in the spring at the museum operated by the LDS Church. The watch and death masks are artifacts from the June 1844 assassinations of Joseph Smith, first president of the now 7.2 million member church, and his brother Hyrum, at Carthage, IL. John Taylor, associate of the Smiths, and later the third president of the church, was with the brothers when they were killed by a mob. He had the watch in his vest pocket when he was hit by a ball fired from outside the Hancock County Jail. The masks were donated to the museum last year by the family of the late Wilford C. Wood, of Woods Cross, Utah. In previous exhibits about the martyrdom, curators used copies of the facial masks. The odometer on display is not the one described in William Claytons journal during the first wagon Plic train west to the Rocky Mountains in 1847. That one was lost many years ago, according to Halls. However the instrument on display is one made in northern Arizona in 1876 by William G. Lowe. The new exhibition will include more than 300 other artifacts, 90 rare documents and 30 historical works of art Garlands LANDSCAPING, GARDEN & LAWN CARE!
