Show Thanks to the EMTs local man survives The Salina Sun USPS Heres thanks for a job well done. It was an unfortunate accident but those involved in a one car rollover were able to walk away without much harm. The up the canyon on in came other lane of traffic when a couple of vehicles the problem to offer assistance. Here a car hit one of the parked vehicles, stopped EMTs were summoned and before this whole experience was over two people were pronounced dead. Until you have been an EMT you really dont understand the mental anguish suffered by these roving trained specialists as they are exposed to bleeding broken bodies and after doing all they can m a portable ambulance watch human beings die. And for the most part, because of distance that compounds response times, there is little that can be done. This only frustrates the saving process and those involved. Last Saturday it was a different story. The scene is at the high school during the little league wrestling matches when an older individual collapsed in the bleachers suffering a massive coronary or heart attack. Several EMTs were present and CPR was started immediately. Because our local EMT s are trained more than just the beginning course, the individual was intubated where a tube was inserted into the windpipe and then sealed off preventing foreign material from entering the lungs. The EMTs have also been trained m using the defibulator which was also hooked up and used. As is par with CPR and massive heart attacks, the success ratio is not good at best but imagine the excitement of the crew when on the way to the Sevier Valley Hospital, their patient starts to breath, at least partially, on his own. Before arriving at the hospital he is even starting to become Phone: Mayor's Corner At the Salina City COuncil meeting of March 5, 1990, an inquiry was made as to what had happened to the proposed annexation passed better than a year ago. A review of the minutes of the council meeting of January 17, 1989, indicated that a motion was made by Karren Glover with a second by Ronald Crane, and unanimously passed to annex the Landfill, High School, City Sheds, Rodeo Grounds, Eastside Cemetery, and Jeep Posse building into the City. This annexation was sidetracked and never completed. These facilities are a part of our city. If these areas are annexed into the city, additional Class C and Class D road funds will be received from the state for their maintenance. The council authorized Ronald Crane to proceed with the process of annexation of these facilities. The legislative session is over. The teachers got some concessions, taxes were juggled about, the new liquor package was passed. Were glad its over, but is it really? The result of the liquor package is that grocery and convenience stores are now not responsible to the public for one ounce of beer they sell. The liquor law as passed requires, by state mandate, that all businesses who sell alcohol for on premise consumption be licensed by federal, state and city, carry dram shop insurance, hire only T.I.P.S. trained employees, and post a surety bond. The hitch is that the new law also stops any licensed on premise consumption businesses from selling any beer to go, thus grocery and convenience stores are now virtually 100 of the total carry out of beer product statewide. A Sheriffs Deputy then found an undetermined amount of marijuana in a compartment in the bed of the truck. A complete search or the vehicle revealed 732 pounds of marijuana and $4,500 in cash. J. Richfield receives grant for improvement project chase of $53,000 by the City and downtown merchants, which will be used to pay off the loan in a one time payment in the year 2015. Richfield has received a loan of $400,000 from the Utah Community Impact Board to develop a parking lot and improvement program west of Main Street from 1 st South to 2nd North. The loan is conditional on a local bond pur Many Utah landfills will have to be closed New landfill regulations issued by the Environmental Protection Agency will go into effect during the next 1 8 months, and many Utah landfills do not measure up to the new guidelines. The new regulations require that all landfills be lined with a double fabric liner, then a layer of clay, then another double liner, then another clay liner. When the pit is full, regulations require it to be covered with dirt. Those using thfe operation will be required to control the runoff water and monitor for methane. EPA regulations also point to For ward recycling the waste. Portland, Oregon recycles example, about 26 of its waste. The most common items for recycling include paper - which accounts for 41 of the waste - yard trimmings, metals and glass. Recycling waste is a new idea in Utah, and the items for recycling must be shipped to the Northwest which adds to the expense. It is likely that some landfills will be closing down, and those that remain open will have to increase their charges to cover the new requirements. -- Financing on new John Deere Hay and Forage Equipment Right now, were offering special financing options on all round balers, square balers, mower conditioners, windrowers, forage harvesters and forage handling equipment. pull-typ- e 1 changes in the high schools. Minimum requirements for the equivalent of 10 students taught each hour have been imposed on each instructor. Any program not meeting these minimum standards may be placed on a conditional status for one year, and terminated for two years of below required enrollment If a program achieves a regular class load for the year, a 10 base salary bonus will go to its instructor. If the program maintains the maximum load, a 25 bonus will be paid. It will also be required that 5 1 of students completing programs at Tech must be placed in jobs within one year. Currently, The Tech has a smaller enrollment than other such institutions throughout the state, causing budget steering committees to be less willing to designate funding v for the school. Joe Luke, state liaison to the Tech, said that greater emphasis needs to be placed on recruiting students from the six county area. Recent legislation also require annual performance reports from the Tech. Analysts feel that these will have to include information on enrollment, placement and operational expenses.
