W r w t 1 y a dream cometruel says NSHS Coach To the North Sevier Community: I would like to take this opportunity to thank the supporters of the North Sevier Boys Basketball Team. A championship is not won by the players and coaches alone. It takes a complete team effort from all those involved in order to create success. You will never know how much your attendance at the games, your words of encouragement and your positive attitude towards us has helped us through both good and bad times. There were some times during the season that things didnt look so good, yet many of you were still positive and believed in us It was so exciting to have so many of you there in Cedar City pushing us on to victory and celebrating with us afterward! ! When we arrived back in Salina on Saturday night, we were so in awe of the magnitude of the reception awaiting us!! It was beyond our wildest dreams! Thanks so much, it will be remembered forever. I would also like to thank families and friends of the team members who have done so much to keep us going throughout the year. There were gifts given the team, both anonymously and otherwise that we as a team thank you for. It helped us tremendously. I appreciate the willingness of you families to set aside personal desires and not be concerned about personal glories, but rather only consider whats best for the TEAM and remain positive at home. That was the key to our success. Thanks so much to the entire coaching staff Whitey, Gerald, Larry. You were indispensable and worked so hard. Also thanks to all those people through the school, the cheerleaders, drill team, Angela, Jason B. and Morgan, Steve Camp and Larry Shumway for all you have done. And a big thank you to the awesome pep band - which helped keep up the spirits of both athletes and fans. There are so many who have done so much and I hope I havent left anyone out - for the great Many thanks to the Salina Sun and Rycham Freeman for and the especially the for posted community keeping year, coverage for last week's issue. Project would improve Salina Creek habitat The R ichfield Ranger District is asking for public comments on a proposed Salina Creek Rehabilitation project. Local residents and those who hunt, fish, manage cattle, or just enjoy the mountains are invited to submit suggestions or concerns about the project The rehabilitation projects would be placed in the most effective locations throughout the 10,000 plus acre drainage, and could cover between 50 and 200 or more acres. The study would cover trail and road relocations or closures; shifting livestock grazing from unsuitable slopes; gully plug construction, revegetating unstable slopes. The goal of the project is to stabilize soils, reduce erosion, and improve water quality on Salina Creek. Secondary goals include improving fishing opportunities and improving the scenic values of the area. Tests performed in 1988 on Salina Creek showed that the stream is in just fair condition, and far from its potential to provide fishing opportunities and clean water. Please submit your comments in writing to Forest Supervisor, Fishlake National Forest, 1 15 East 900 North, Richfield, Utah 84701, Deadline attention Vince Pace. for comments is May 1, 1990. At a special meeting of the Sevier Valley Area Technical Center Board recently, schedule changes; load requirements for instructors and placement requirements for students were detailed. David Blackwell, board member told teachers, The truth is, we are asking you to work harder for less money. The alternative, according to Blackwell, is the shutdown of the facility. One of the changes involved changing Techs daily schedule to a trimester system, so that it will be able to coincide with the Sevier District High Schools. All three high schools will be using the trimester schedule, which is a six period day. This allows Tech to add a period before school and an 8th period, offering greater scheduling flexibility for high school students. Tech Business Director Kim Blackburn traced many of the problems to a lack of secondary school students. The Tech has 85 less students today than it had five years ago - mainly because of scheduling Continued on Page 2 Last but not least, I want to thank my players.
