Were hoping this will continue to be the forecast for the Moose. The habitat they come from is very close to their new home. Hopefully they will stay in this area. Upcoming hunts, when to apply for these hums? This month Interagency people have been meeting with each other to come up with recommendations as to hunt types, numbers, days, weapons, and so on, to take to the Big Game Board to make a final decision for the 1990 season. At the end of this month, the Big Game Board will be holding public meetings to have public input before they finalize the recommendations. The meeting for our area will be March 27, at 7 p.m. at the North Sevier High School Auditorium. A change this year from last year all special hunts and hunt applications will be accepted during the month of May. By this time all decisions will be made and proclamations and rules will be sent out Fred Pannunzio DWR Conservation A little update on Division of Wildlife Resources items of interest in our area. Number one being the Moose. The D.W.R. was successful in moving 30 head of Shiras Moose to thealina Creek area-2- 1 cowsand 9 bulls. Most of the cows were given radio collars to help DWR biologists keep track and see how the moose do in their new home. All moose were given colored ear tags to show when they were planted and where. If sportsmen and the Public observe moose, DWR would appreciate the help if they would notify local conservation officers or Game Manager Norm Bowden. Please try to include the area the moose were sighted, color of ear tag if any, and number on ear tag, if possible. Also, if moose adults or adults with young are observed in the field dont try to get too close because at times moose - especially those with young, can be very aggressive. After the first flight things look very good for the moose plant. Utah received $5.8 billion from the federal government - that means $3,392 for every person within its borders - during fiscal year 1988. This amounts to 28 of Utahs total personal income. Only six states receive more federal dollars per $1,000 of personal income. Federal money coming in to Utah is made up of five major categories: grants to state and local governments, salaries and wages for federal employees, direct payments to individuals procurement contracts, and other programs. Direct payment to individuals includes social security, medicare, food stamps, veterans pensions and many other payment forms, and is the largest category of federal expenditure in Utah. Salaries and wages represents the third largest category, followed by grants to state and local government and other programs. Grants are revenue paid by the federal government to state and local governments. Generally grants do not include loans or insurance programs, payments in lieu of taxes, payments for contracted services to state and local governments or direct payments to individuals. During fiscal year 1988, 44 programs used population all or in part to distribute federal money. Of the $436 million distributed in Utah, $222 million was based on population data. The 1980 census brought in $ 1 3 1 for every person in Utah, or $422 per household during the fiscal year 1988. Since the census is only taken once every ten years, many changes can occur that could affect this funding. Utahs ranking among the states is 25th, receiving $3,400 per person in the state.
